Commanders,

Today we’re launching the Supertest for two new vehicles, the HWK 30 and the T95/FV4201 Chieftain. They are, respectively, a German Premium Tier VIII light tank and a British reward Tier X heavy.

Let’s take a closer look at the T95/FV4201 Chieftain!

thumbnail (1).jpeg

The Chieftain of the Britons is a reward Tier X heavy tank with a future as cloudy as its homeland’s skies in autumn. We’ll make sure to check all of its parameters thoroughly, but even after testing we won’t be ready to speak about its ultimate fate. The Chieftain has a great fast-firing gun with an alpha of 440 points and some pleasing aiming parameters. Having 40 alpha damage more than his competitors among the British (and American) heavies, its stabilization, accuracy and aiming time are barely lagging the competition, while it tops them in terms of standard penetration. The Chieftain can shoot from the hip: while moving or shortly after it has stopped. Large spotting range ensures there’s always someone to fire at. On top of all those pleasant things, there’s one more: HESH shells are available as the third type of rounds.

The Chieftain’s mobility is to please, too: the top speed of 46 km/h isn’t a world record, but this vehicle gains it fast enough and sustains it well. The armor at the front is sufficient to negate everything that lower-tier folks hurl at the Brit. Yet same-tier opponents may have a chance to penetrate; also, you should not expose your sides or rear to them. The gun depression of -7 degrees adds to survivability, so use the shapes of land to your advantage.

The Chieftain has good handling, both in terms of driving and firing. Those inclined towards British and/or American heavily armored tanks and TD’s will like it a lot. Let’s wait for the testing results and keep calm until we learn what happens to this fellow.

Spoiler

As always, the parameters of both tanks may change based on Supertest results. Follow the news and good luck in your battles!

I'm confused:

- The front looks like a Chieftain, but the back looks waaat?

- Is this the actual Chieftain, and in that case what's up with the "T95" part?

Anyhow, it looks interesting, but please:

- If this tank is supposed to have a good turret, please skip the turret weakspots. It's better if you add weakspots such as a LFP instead. Reward players that position their tank properly, instead of punishing them with cupola pixel shots.

- Since you said it will be a reward tank, please don't make it clan wars exclusive. Not everyone is in a clan, and not everyone can join a good enough clan.

And if this isn't the actual Chieftain that so many players has waited for, can we please get the real Chieftain aswell?

Otherwise it looks nice :great:

PS. Can we please get some supertest/insider news regarding the premium ammo/consumables rework? :hiding:

The reason I think it looks wierd is because I expected a Chieftain to look like this:

A picture of the german LT would be nice :)

Also, can we expect the Chieftain to be anything like the one already availiable for purchase in the chinese region?

Going by current stats: Seems to be quite different actually. E.g. the Chieftain Mk6 has even better gun-handling than the S-Conq, this one seems to be more of an E5 with a better turret and higher top-speed.

Probably CW reward as there is a new campaign planned for January, and it usually takes WG 1-2 months to supertest stuff.

It has the turret and gun of the Chieftain and hull of the T95 medium tank, thats why.

We already have another tank like that at tier 8, Chieftain/T95, which is basically the same thing but reversed - hull of the Chieftain and turret and gun of the T95 MT.

Haha, you're really out of touch with the game, aren't you? :D

The tier 8 reward Chieftain/T95 has the T95E1's turret and the T95E2 at tier 8 has essentially the same hull as this thing.

So does the T95E6 at tier X, the other T95 clan wars reward variant.

The T95/Chieftain has existed at tier X for a very long while now.

Im glad they trimmed the turret of baskets and lights, it looked stupid before.

That 1000bhp engine, though, I wonder what alternate history book that comes from.

Ahhh I see, thank you :)

I remember that we had some Chieftain model added earlier, and I remember it wasn't the "real" Chieftain, so that's why I wondered what this was ;)

Inb4 Patton-59

@WG: Really though, can we please have the real Chieftain? If you can add the Chieftains turret + gun on another hull, I don't understand what would be so OP if you added the same turret + gun on the real Chieftain hull?

I am, but not with tanks that I can't obtain. The Chieftain/T95 is locked behind CW, and on top of that it's not even the real Chieftain, so it's not very high up on my list of interesting tanks ;)

Just meant that it's very easily distinguishable since there are so many T95s in the game and if you've ever used tanks.gg, its hard to miss them.

In any case, WG did say about a month or so ago they had plans to use the already existing T95/Chieftain tier X, so it's nice to see it cleaned up a bit now.

We are unlikely to get the actual Chieftain any time soon.

There is no reason for it since clearly, the Chieftain's hull is fair game and so are the turret and gun.

I suspect they are saving it for some ridiculous lootbox thing that I hope never comes.

Nice thing that you're adding a british reward vehicle into the game too. Sadly not all that many people will have access to these nebulous reward tanks due to the high competitiveness of clan wars.

And now that this is coming, when are we getting the Chieftain Mk.6 to the tech tree? I mean, the Chinese tech tree already has an alternate tier X heavy tank.

I can appreciate the effort for bringing tier X players more incentives, but for years, yes YEARS the Chieftain Mk.6 has been in the game files.

IT IS the one tank the player base has requested to be put on the PC version British tech tree as an alternative at tier X. Why is this something that is exclusive to the console version (and the Chinese server where you can buy anything)?

In my opinion the T95/Chieftain is nothing but a slap in the face of your player base as it will most likely be only available as a CW reward tank. The British tech tree is still lacking a light tank line up to tier X...

I'm definitely disappointed, but still hopeful that the REAL Chieftain would come to the tech tree, hopefully sooner than later.

It's a cool looking tank but it doesn't actually look very good stats wise.

For a start that is about 2.5k DPM, nothing special there and a long way behind the SC, 215b and the in game files Chieftain Mk 6. It's also behind the 5A.

Then you have a tier 8 T95 hull on a tier 10 heavy tank, with it's like 170-180mm effective upper plate and barely 100 effective lower plate, which means you will have to always hide your hull to have a chance of bouncing even tier 8s.

Then we have the gun depression, -7, on a Chieftain turret, which IRL has -10, why? That makes no sense, we have so many tanks with much higher gun depression than they had historically and here you have gone the other way when the other 'Chieftains' in the game have -10, and every high tier British heavy also has -10.

Then we have the Chieftain turret itself, unless you have changed the model, than it has similar problems to the Cent AX, where you can shoot above and around the gun and will pen with tier 10 guns, making this turret a lot worse than tanks like the Super Conqueror or 60TP.

So yeh it's fairly mobile, looking like it has about the same mobility as the E5 with a better top speed.

But then there is another tank that goes 45kph, that has a good turret, that has -9 gun depression, has nearly 270 APCR pen, has better gun handling and DPM than this tank, has a troll upper plate and has 420m view range. That is a tier 10 medium tank the M48 Patton which seems to be better or equal to this tank in almost every way bar alpha and 200 hit points.

There is also the WZ-111-5A which has the same gun depression, but turret and hull armour, more DPM, more alpha, is more agile and goes faster.

Overall this tank looks pretty weak to me.

Might have been good like 2-3 years ago but you have power crept the hell out of tier 10, to the point where the in-game files Chieftain Mk 6, which you said you couldn't balance, doesn't even look that good anymore so why not just bring that out?

It probably was changed: tanks.gg lists the Chieftain turret with 250/140/30mm in the stats, this leaks states 350/175/17(!)mm.And looking at the visual model at least the cupola seems to be way smaller. Of course that doesn't actually tell us if the turret is any good in the end, esp. in the areas you mentioned around the gun.

Current model though has 350mm spots on it, so they might have just changed the listing of the armour.

Still odd that this tank has 440 on a 120mm gun. At least be consistent WG, it's 400 for 120mm or it's 460 for the British 123mm (aka the Badger gun).

Plus why with that awful hull armour and good speed is this not a medium tank?

In fact with these stats why is this not a tier 9?

A couple years back, WG tested 440 alpha on all 120mm guns and decided to do nothing about it.

This might be a sign that things are changing.

As everybody is being nice I'll put it in plain English, not

interested in a made up tank, just do what was promised

years ago, & put the Chieftain in the British tech tree. In

fact with the recent power creep you could have the Mk 5

or 6 at tier nine & the Mk10 at tier ten. And don't forget the

FULLY stabilized gun on ALL Mks of the tank.
