Hi in just a few days it will be 100 years since the end of the first world war,

anyone know of any plans WG have to celebrate this,

perhaps special battle modes containing WW1 tanks ?.

All that has been announced is a special from 10th-12th.

REMEMBRANCE DAY
10-12 November: celebrate the end of World War I with this new special, featuring discounts on most vehicles and more, as well as x5 XP for your first victory!

Celebrating a war's ending by hosting and incentivising thousands of virtual battles, as usual.

Well if anyone thinks Remembrance Day is a celebration, let alone a chance to sell stuff, then they will have somewhat missed the point.

True.

Maybe WG could find a way to "freeze" the servers at the 11th hour of the 11th day ofthe 11th month, with a large poppy filling the screen for a 2 minute silence, while players reflect on the senseless slaughter of so many from all sides of the conflicts and maybe consider that there are better ways to resolve differences between nations.

For me, its a time to relflect all those lost in war

all the lives lost i was involved with in Afghan, partically the most senseless death i care to remember. L/CPL Jake Alderton (Royal Engineers).

This is year Rememberance day falls on the 11th, And I'll be wearing my poppy with pride, without a care whom it might upset.

I think that the wearing of poppies is mainly a UK ism and a lot of nations in the EU might not be as comfortable in displaying this symbol as a sign of the ending of the great war.

However it should be remembered by all and WG is doing that, albeit in their own fashion.

First World War officially ends

The First World War will officially end on Sunday, 92 years after the guns fell silent, when Germany pays off the last chunk of reparations imposed on it by the Allies.

The final payment of £59.5 million, writes off the crippling debt that was the price for one world war and laid the foundations for another.

Germany was forced to pay the reparations at the Treaty of Versailles in 1919 as compensation to the war-ravaged nations of Belgium and Franceand to pay the Allies some of the costs of waging what was then the bloodiest conflict in history, leaving nearly ten million soldiers dead.

The initial sum agreed upon for war damages in 1919 was 226 billion Reichsmarks, a sum later reduced to 132 billion, £22 billion at the time.

That symbol (used in relation to WWI) is mainly British, why would it be on all screens in WoT? Most players wouldn't even know what it's about.

it is not just about "knowing".

Freezing servers on 11/11 11:11 is really nice idea. but no poppies.

I hope someone from WG will read this thread.

P.S. To all the UK's and Brits here:

doesnt that symbol represent remembrance of all UK soldiers, not WWI only?

Yes, it does. The symbol originated from the poppies that grew in the fields of Flanders that are of course associated with the WW1, but it is used as rememberance for all. Note that it is for all who have fallen from all nations, not just UK soldiers.

I know it’s a well meaning idea but as far as I'm aware it’s relatively British centric and just as importantly it can be seen not as allowing a time of collective remembrance but instead ‘forcing’ it.

Equally, I have to wonder how many people would realise what was going on, rather than just another server blip.

although to be a bit crass I was hoping a repeat of the 100 years of the tank event.  I'll do my 3 minutes silence and will have probably lost 2 poppies and will be on my 3rd by the 11th.

I hope not, it's a trivial game we are playing, and need not get involved in the serious business.

When Jake came into the ER at Bastion, it was the heart breaking, we still worked on him for 35 mins.

I for one will never forget,   I even wear the 34 Royal Engineers wrist band today.
