What I find most disappointing about the new HD Highway is that the devs clearly had a long time to play around with it, it was absent from the game for ages and yet, for all that time, it came back utterly terrible. It's still a map where large areas of it are unusable and both caps along with their approaches are really very exposed so, anyone "foolish" enough to actually play this game positively and try make something happen invariably gets spotted and wrecked with little to no chance of getting cover.
It's another sort of map that, apart from the main town area, promotes and rewards deep redline camping. Like many maps, the cap and spawn areas are just too well protected with hard cover and bushes so it's much easier to win to by having one spotter sit forward in a bush and have his redline bushing farming team behind him just punish the enemy team as they advance. Alternatively, it can be even more sad by just letting your teammates die and then pick off the 25-50% hp enemy remnants as they advance towards your cap then crawl out from behind your rock and finishing off the rout. Big kill count and big damage count but nothing actually positive play involved. Steppes is another blatant example of this but lots of maps, Prok, Sand River, Live Oaks... so many maps lately... the general attitude seems to be to do nothing, wait for enemy to make the move and if that doesn't work out, suicide into a lake or off a cliff. Is this gaming experience getting worse and worse? Maybe it's just something I'm picking up on.
