ok so I set up ambush in my lightly armoured heavy gunned TD and I spot naff all until it appears right in front of my gun, this is even heavy tanks crossing open country, this is crazy no wonder player base is crashing, when mechanics like this are working the way they are, I have also more or less stopped playing arty which can now not do any significant damage and gains little experience making this line a complete and utter drag, The costs for arty need to be radically reduced to balance the fact that all the moaners ruined it.

If you have a replay I can try helping you what you do wrong.

Spotting works pretty good if you know what you are doing.

For all we know you had half a forest between you and your target of double bushes drastically reducing your spotting range. Or you did it at the top of a ridge line with massive blindspot below it, so you did not see him move in from the side.

As going by "I did not spot anything until he was close" alone is no indication that it is broken.

You know when you are double bushed then the double bushes stop you seeing as well.

But then a TD doing it's own spotting is doing it wrong.  Unless it's an FCM36.

In my experience the spotting mechanic works like this - If I drive any other tank a UDES (for example) can hammer me from 10 feet and never be spotted. If I drive my UDES, which has 1037 camo rating , recon, sit awareness and binos,I can be spotted from 1000m by a tank the size of a block of flats and shot 6 times without it ever becoming visible to me.  Like everything else in WOT they have you sc******d any which way so just live with it.

In all honesty, your win rate still seems too high in regard to your 'understanding' of some core game mechanics.

He is doing the spotting because WG and the personal missions are damaging the game, everyone is for themselves.

There's a difference between broken and you not understanding mechanics.

I don't recall any specific TD spotting missions but there are plenty for lights or in the case of the 2nd campaign, any class, to get assisted damage, which you can't get by playing for yourself.
