I'm a noob again, having come back to World of Tanks after many years of absence. So I found out that everybody is using a mod called XVM, and installed it. Now in game I get a color coded rating next to each players name, and I understand the color scale from tomato red to unicum purple. However I don't understand the actual number displayed.

I don't think it is the WN8, because I have a WN8 of 853 (orange, not good, I know), but the number displayed in battle for me is 2764 (also in orange). That isn't my Wargaming Rating / Personal Rating from the Service Record either, which is 2,991 (no color code). So what exactly is the number the mod displays in battle?

By the way, I noticed that other players use that ranking to judge other players, complaining if there are too many "tomatoes" in their team. But I also noticed that the rating doesn't seem to be a very good indicator of skill, as it for example apparently completely ignores assisted damage from scouting. I'm feeling a bit penalized, because I love to play light tanks, half of my games have been played in light tanks, but that appears to drag down my rating.

It displays whatever rating you set it up to display.

But they are all meaningless made up numbers anyway.

And no, not everybody likes to be demoralised by that mod.

just ignore xvm and wn and all that stuff.

as long as you are doing well in your games and having fun that's what it is about.

the only point at which statistics become interesting is when you want to know more about yourself.

for example "why am I winning so much more in tank a than in tank b?"

xvm and wn might help there, but they are just tools not the answers themselves.

I use XVM... but not the stats... it's just a very convenient set of garage mods.  oh, and the forumite mode requires it too.

Your personal rating is now over 3k.

It's probably your personal rating, but a bit out of date.

Oh, and light tanks have low expected dmg.  When they do end up doing damage, they get a high rating for those battles.  It's meant to balance out.

Go to modxvm.com website

Upper right corner has "settings"

Choose WN8 as the rating you want to be displayed. The default setting is WGR

And update it. Even though im not using it, i was using it before, and i remember that you need to update it so you dont have outdated numbers...

As i always said about XVM. Of course numbers there still give possibility that even bad player can do good battles, or good player can fail.

But, in general, when you see numbers, i mean wn8 first, it can show what are you capable of doing in battle. And that will be truth for like minimum 7/10 battles.

Even though personal rating and wn8 are also more or less farmable.
