I've just had a game, on Sand River, where I spotted 15 of the enemy tanks. My total spotting damage was 111 hp.  Admittedly, I was playing too aggressively. I feel that the team should have done more damage.

There are no teams in WOT's random matches, only herds.

Seen it several, dozen, times where 'scout' is very agressive....

Meanwhile here I am in, say T9 or 10 arty, having to reload and aim, some 40 to 45 seconds, next thing scouts dead!

Sometimes wish scouts weren't as flaming fast....

Difficult to say without a replay but one thing I did come to realise, when I used to play dedicated scouts, was you have to work with your team to spot what they can shot and not just go to a ‘good spotting area’.

I'm going to assume you crested the ridge at the very start of the game for most of the spots? Big surprise, only arty can shoot over the hill at the very start. Very few tanks otherwise will be in positions that offer them shots at the spotted tanks, if at all possible.

I’ve done that. On Widepark. While no one in my team was in any position yet to shoot at any Enemy tank yet.

Its good for knowing how the enemy will deploy, but expecting them to do dmg is silly...

It's a victory for the team you were on, so I fail to see how this could be a team fail. Initial spotting is pointless when no one on the team can actually shoot them or even see them on screen (render distance). Sometimes it can be useful to know which enemies are heading where, as pointed out before, but most of the time that's fairly obvious anyway.

Heh, that's the problem with playing scouts. Most of the time they have only 2 options. Either they have to

- scout aggressively but far forward, so most targets can't be shot at, or

- on closed corridor maps they can't scout at all.

IMO scouting is too team-dependent to be fun. :(

The secret to Scouting on sand river and all open maps is not to over extend. Remember that the enemy scout is probably doing the same thing and is just as likely to spot you as you are him. Always look for an escape route and try to avoid scouting in a tank with a less than able crew. 6th sense and situational awareness are a minimum.

If anyone knows how to scout in. M41 German Bulldog I could do with some tips, I am awful in it!

Nothing wrong about spotting with arty, you do whatever you have to win.

First rule of WoT online multiplayer games; it's everyone's fault who isn't me.

That said, the first rule of spotting should be to spot tanks that your team can shoot. There's no point rushing to get early spots if your team are still crashing into each other in spawn, unless you've got a mission to get so many spotted ribbons or something.

It's called an appetizer (or amuse-bouche if the wolf is a snob).

After reading the comments, I would have to conclude, it was a spotting failure on my part.
