I play TD's a lot (my T40 has over 2 000 000 research points), and I have found the Excalibur to be one of the most fun to play. Possibly the most accurate gun in the game (0.28 at 100m), a nifty rotating peekaboo turret with decent traverse speed, and camo values the same as my tier4 T40. Also has HESH rounds which I find are brilliant for depleting scouts in first 60 sec of game, or doing serious damage to higher tier open TD's such as the Skorpion.

Yet I don't see many people playing it in game - am I missing something?

My guess is most players who have it, and that arent even that many, are the better players and they hardly play td's and hardly tier 6.

Had two in a battle with me once both in same toon.

They were awful.  Now I don't know if it was the players or the tanks but they sucked.

I sold mine without playing it. A tier 6 TD with pew pew gun and no turret. No thank you.

I don't like SPG's is my main reason for not having it (apart from being mediocre in WoT - seems I have forgotten how to play!)

I have one and found it quite fun to play ( t6 isn't a great tier though due to mm ). I just don't have any desire to train any Brit Td crews so I haven't played it that often.

Since I hate SPG's in general, I have no hopes getting this reward vehicle.

Thank you, WG! Did I said that you're awesome?

I will see your /sarcasm and raise you //knowledge

It's not an SPG -  it's a TD.

I have found that when you are in the upper tiers in a game, it can be a decisive game winner. The excellent camo and insanely accurate gun allow you do do a lot of damage whilst staying invisible. Even when you are the bottom of the pile you can eat away at higher tier meds and heavies (specially the Japs) so that teammates have an easier job to finish them off.

Maybe you should actually have a look at the tank? It has a turret - it is a turreted tank destroyer.

This TD is no armor (50mm), so its fun untill you get spotted...

I'd suggest it's any of the following as a cause;

1. Players can't be arsed to complete the grind

2. Players want to complete the grind but aren't proficient enough to get through them

3. They've taken a look at it and it's stats and decided picking their nose is preferable

4. They have completed and it's just sat as a museum piece in their garage

Yep. Same can be said of 90% of lower tier TD's - whats your point?

The idea is to NOT get spotted. Play from distance and remain unspotted until you have to move. (BTW - its also pretty quick both forwards and backwards)

I would say this:

If you have it, and you enjoy playing TD's, give it a go - it's a hellava lot of fun to play.

You can get it easily without playing any arty.

Union, Bloc and Coalition missies require no arty. So when you do #15 with honors on them all you get three orders.

The Alliance has three arty missions which you can skip with those orders.

So no need to play arty to get the Excalibur.

It is a surprisingly nice to play vehicle. But I don't play tier 6 all that much anymore. If I do I prefer the t-50-2 :)

Yep. This is mine in my garage.

I did however play it on test, and that's one reason I wasn't bothered about playing it.

Tier 6 is the new tier 3 anyway with a crazy meta, and so whilst this tank has a niche it's got lower DPM than the Achilles for slightly better maneuverability. But if I'm going to play a Tier 6 TD I'll play the SU-100, so having a turret or no turret isn't the issue.

Tier 6 TD meta is the issue, and it's all over the place.

You need ONE order to bypass the ONE mission which requires arty for the primary objective.

No, I'm missing something. The time to grind out the missions for it.

That...and luck, sometimes. :(

What?? who WOULD'NT want to play a tank that looks THIS good?? Oh ya!

http://wotreplays.eu/site/4661498#redshire-tungstenhitman-excalibur

It's a real oddball tank and I like those sort of novelty tanks so I'd never be stupid enough to sell it, it's just too unique being a really funky looking half boat half caravan half Dalek(from Doctor Who) looking thingy. It's actually not that bad to play either, consider it less of a TD and more of a papery sniper type of med, much like a Swedish STRV 4. It has very fast aim time and excellent accuracy, no shortage of ammo but only does the sort of dmg and pen you'd expect from an average T6 medium although with better DPM than most T6 meds. It has no turret but at the same time it sort of has a turret, just it's limited to a very generous gun arch of 100/100 so it's only limited really by the fact it can't continue to track a target circling it as this gun arch eventually runs out obviously, but for all other combat applications and scenarios it's effectively got a turret.

Reason I don't use it much is it just feels like it's good but not good enough and missing something, neither good enough to be played as a medium and not powerful enough to be much fun or very effective as a back line TD. So you sort of have to play it between both playstyles but it just kinda sucks compared to a dedicated medium or TD at either roll. Instead it's sort of too large and easy a target for something so papery, a little bit too slow in mobility to get about the battlefield effectively or react to situations unfolding and the DPM isn't ever really good enough to land that 2nd shot while the premium pen is as mediocre as the T6 mediums which is a problem since unlike most T6 meds, you really don't have the mobility and certainly not the armor or hp or turret to get into a brawl or get on another tanks flanks so... it just takes one unkind battle to go "ah... f*** this tank I couldn't be arsed playing it anymore". Any time I'm tempted to play it I find myself drawn to the Charioteer on screen next to it which is also a sort of TD/Medium hybrid playstyle but has some genuinely useful mobility, a full turret, is low and sleek, big standard pen, big standard shell velocity, big DPM, plus when you can crack someone in the mouth for nearly 400 alpha instead of 150, albeit 2 tiers higher, it's just more likely I'm gonna be playing that tank instead!!
