Been pounding Tier X in recent days in order to farm bonds but, in doing so, I find myself enjoying GB's more & more.

And it's just occurred to my why - quite simply the battles, for the most part, have been extremely close.

Maybe it has something to do with the calibre of the players involved, or map design or a combination of a few things - who knows.

Ok, so I'm not, by any stretch of the imagination, a capable Tier X player (save for arty:trollface:) but winning & losing has bought tremendous fun in each case.

In fact, ove the entire weekend, I can only recall one GB that was a rolf-stomp and our team was very much on the receiving end.

So, all in all, great job WG, long may they continue:honoring:

I can't enjoy those, 4 arty was enough for me to disable it for good. :coin:

Shame, but I do agree that four arty is too many.

Seriously man, once you learn to dismiss arty as the ineffectual tool it is, these maps are superb fun  :)

I know, I need to learn to play and stop active camping in the front. :(

Totally this. If not for the constant arty barrage, I would re-enable GB's.

Yeah me too. Tried it a few times, got fed up with HE raining down on everything that is not a TDs fabbing in bush or arta themselves. Disabled until they figure something out with changing HE, arta, or change GB so the limit is no higher than max 2. For some reason (I think the maps) GB makes arta even less fun to have in the game than normal battles. They seem to be massively influential and were often in top 5 of the exp and damage list in the few battles I have played. It just doesn't seem right considering they are fabbing in base without risk and only have to click every 30 seconds.

i really like GB mode as well

As the games are more close and the size of the maps is more interesting 3 arty would be enough, but then my XVM camouflage means I rarely get focused.

Wheeled vehicles would be quite fun too imagine the distance you could cover!

I played them a lot, but then they occured way too often, so I switched them off.

My main problem was that they last an average 20+ min for so few xp, no more than a regular 10- min battle.

what i loved was the fact that most bots don't undestand that there are so many flanking opportunities ..

but i fear they just dumbed the map down now (haven't tried it on TS), prettymuch making it a huge corridor like all the other maps ..

I rather like GB's only pitfall is T92HMC can sometimes run out of ammo!

I like the mode arty can be annoying yes but since the map is nice and large it's very possible to avoid a huge amount of attention from them.

I just hardly get any these days so when I do get one I always have to relearn the do's and don'ts

I only liked grand battles when they were tier 8 some time ago.

The GB maps just worked a lot better with tier 8 tanks, but then again so do all WoT maps.

I enjoyed GB when it was on the test server.

When it came into the game far less so. So I don't play it any more.

Arty is way more effective in grand battles. I finished obj 260 arty missions few months ago and grand battles really made all the difference. Played the GWE-100 or whatever the german top arty is called and in grand (pun intended) number of just 9 grand battles I managed to complete (with honors) 3 arty missions, including SPG-15 (2nd GB after the mission was unlocked). Reasons why arty is basically OP in GBs are pretty simple:

Huge mapsize (at least in WoT  scale) is the key factor:

1. There is almost 0% chance that you will be spotted or taken out early, also there is plenty of room to locate and relocate making counterbattery next to impossible. Actually in all grand battles I have seen arty has never been taken out early (that I recall). So arty is basically untouchable during the match (excluding the clean up phase, but battle is decided by that point anyways).

2. Because firing distance is rather long arties have insane firing arc. I have read plenty complaints how CGC and FV304 for example can lob shells behind obstacles thx to their high arc, but in GB my GWE had no problem dropping near vertical bombshells behind the rocks. Also since the angle of impact is near 90 degrees it means rather sweet damage since with increased accuracy you can drop shells on engine decks or other poorly armored top parts. Even got some sweet penetrating hits on tanks you normally just do 200-300 hp hits at best. Off course downside is long shell travel, but I adress that later.

Other map related things going for arty in GB:

1. In most part GB maps are very open, only small parts are truly 'arty-safe' thanks to high firing arc.

2. Despite open design flanking opportunities are actually rather limited, since tanks are all tier 10 (haven't played tier 8 gb) and have by default high view range. Also open areas are pretty much covered by good TD positions and with plenty of high alpha-high pen tds in both teams the active playing is limited to very few spots on the map, where hull down heavies try to get advantage over their counterparts. And while these positions offer some cover, it is not really enough due to the high firing arc.

3. End result is bunch of heavies sitting and bleeding hp to the arty.

4. TD camping positions are pretty obvious and usually got in few sweet blind hits on TDs, highlight being a blind kill on grille.

Other things going for arty:

1. lots of targets obviously

2. Matches last long

3. Unlike other classes, you can switch to other flank in just few seconds if action on some part of the map dies out. This allows to rack up exp more than other classes (that basically play 'normal' wot match on their selected turf).

Overall arty are pretty much OP in GB, and I advice anyone grinding arty missions to enable them, otherwise you are better of without them.

I disabled grand battles right after they were implemented because four out of five first battles with tier 10 tank were grand battles and I found that to be too much.

I like grand battles but only in meds and lights. The flanking opportunities as the numbers thin down and endgames are usually better than randoms. Hopefully they will keep adding maps, a desert one would be good next.

You are a professional arty gamer, of course you like grand battles. Click and click, it,s not game.

I've not had much good experience with them so far, I find that they emphasis on the issue with good scout(s) in one team vs. bad ones in the other, compared to ordinary randoms. Then again I only play T10 every now and then for a few battles, so things might even out a bit in time.
