What is it, other than to avoid one with me?

Just been told this in another game (WoW's) by a fellow clan member about platoons, that platoons (Divisions in WoW's) are fail platoons if you use the same ship, personally I think it's a load of hogwash as in tank's I prefer to be in the type of tank, be it heavy, medium or lights.

Is a mixed platoon, or a same type platoon the correct way, or a fail platoon?

since one cannot make a platoon with more than one arty or a tier difference,

there is no such thing as a fail platoon anymore.

I think the only fail platoons now are the ones that have omegalul poor optional stock configs like IS-4. Don't really see an issue with any other kind of platoon.

Edit - And platooning pref matchmaking tanks with full matchmaking tanks, thank you post below for reminding me that is still a thing :harp:

Yes there is.

Seeing a B2 on a tier 6 battle is close to fail toon IMO.

Yeah well, your clan member isn't entirely wrong, picking 3 shitty tanks is definitely not way to go if you're concerned about winning and performance in general. 3 x light tank platoon or something like that can definitely hurt your chances to win on quite a few maps.

Every platoon is failplatoon nowadays, cuz wg team messed id up so hard, if u play platoon in any tier that lower is than 9 u get a bottom tier ticket. Except the pref mm tanks.

My most common toon nowdays are 2 or 3 T8 light tanks.

I was lucky then, platooning with a friend this afternoon. Top tier 3 battles in a row, in O-I, KV2 and Jumbo Sherman. Got to admit, that was unusual.

How to platoon? Invite two people from your friendlist, pick a tank, short briefing in the platoonchat, press battle, have fun. It's that simple.
However, you should be aware that some combinations of tanks (or players) will make your platoon a burden for the whole team.

The correct way to platoon is three Russian tier 9 medium tanks.

Just avoid horrible combinations: it makes no sense to combine an Arty with a Maus for example - the Maus gets nerfed indirectly as the enemy is garanteed to have Arty while on the other hand the Arty cannot rely on it's platoon mate to go spotting.

The best combinations imho are tanks with high or at least average mobility and no more than 1 light or TD - you want the flexibility for aktive gameplay  - if you just want to camp at the back with some Strv there is no need to platoon. For example T54 wolfpacks are deadly becouse they can show up anywhere, last long by sharing HP and got enough combined firepower to overwhelm any single tank they run across.

The way we platoon is, each player takes it in turns to pick a tier, any tier from 2 - 9, the guy who picks selects his tank, if it's a light, someone will go TD or Arty etc, the other a Medium of Heavy in an attempt to play a combined arms approach.

Then we press battle and the map screws us every time :teethhappy:

If the the player whose turn it is to pick a tank and then dose not pick a heavy tank then eject him from the platoon . :teethhappy:

The correct way to platoon is all play derp heavies, types, Kv2s etc, effectively negating all armour in the game.

Platoons are useful if you play platoon tactics. If its just a "one goes rigth, one goes left" it is a fail imo. Except for fun but then one waiting the other's end is not fun very long. And if you have reserves it is a loss.

Super Pershing or Jtiger 8.8 in tier 10 battle is a fail platoon in my book.

Also, picking 3 support vehicles, especially tier 10 support vehicles lowers your team's chances of winning.
