Bit of really off topic stuff here.

This New York Times dialect quiz is surprisingly accurate and a few minutes to waste in between games.

Correctly picked up my mongrel upbringing of southern, southwest and north.

Any words they're missing - keep it clean lads.

I'd say it is accurate.

It's fairly accurate, but I had both northern & southern accent

inputs as my parents were from Yorkshire & Hampshire, & Dad

was in the Army, so we travelled a fair bit too.

West Yorkshire border with South Yorkshire threw it off :D But it got there in the end!

Got me bang on - a few more questions and I reckon it would have pinpointed the house I grew up in!  :great:

Definitely not from around here are you? Your answers were closer to the average person outside of Ireland and Britain than anywhere inside it.

Pretty accurate. I was born in Nottingham but lived in Sheffield and North Derbyshire for longer so I picked up few words from each area. The map has my central focus on Sheffield but with related areas also marked.

You know a better quiz to test whether you're proper British or not would have been to state left or right to this.

The left hand picture makes me feel physically sick at the thought.

Who the hell puts cake mix onto a Scone? Kidding aside I wouldn't dream of putting Jam and Peanut butter together.

Better question should be: Do you add Milk before or after you add Water? If you answer the former you lose your citizenship as your obviously not British.

Both wrong because they are missing the top half of the scone, which should be on top of the filling.  Bloomin southerners.

It got me down to a surprisingly large area spilling over into Lancashire.  Must have picked up a few words from these foreigners they make me work with.:(

I repeated it a few times and it seems to get more and more accurate.  Especially if you use the "other" box.
