Wanting to finish the grind on my UDES, one of the few tanks i still need to grind. How useful is the spotting plane and smoke screen reserves? I've never used them. and in battle how pratical are they to take over inspire/artillery strike/Engineering?

The plane's good for spotting tanks such as your UDES. No matter the camo, all tanks will be spotted within an area you choose. Arty too.

Smoke screen is useful for hiding your allies in capture zones.

Recon plane is good for racking up more XP.  Well timed use and you can rack up quite a lot of assistance damage, I quite often use it if I am on the way to somewhere else which means I am picking up XP even whilst I am not really doing something, like see another sector about to capped and just dump it over the defenders or attackers.

Recon plane is probably overall the second most useful reserve after Engineering as it allows you to spot enemies beyond the 445m range and completely ignores camo factors (including hard cover).

Smoke screen is of limited use as it works both ways.

On a UDES I'd probably pick Recon+Arty and skip Engineering.

Something to note here: Targets spotted by recon planes follow the same rules as targets spotted by you directly. That means you only get spotting-XP from allies within radio range, so XP-wise it's completely useless to spot A while you're at C for example.

Works on adjacent sectors as far as I can tell. Most tier 8s have like 700-800m radio ranges without any crew, so easily cover the distance.

Yeah, as long as you're in range of 1-1.5km it's not a big issue, just if you're using it on the other side of the map.
