One of the old balanced while still competitive premiums. Makes you remember how the game was before WG became as greedy as it is now.
Great crew trainer for high tier Russian meds if you can bear the atrocious MM. You'll stomp helpless tier 6's with a big smile on your face once every 30 games or so.

Recommendation to people considering this tank - skip it.

 

One way to describe this tank accurately is as by far the weakest Tier VIII Russian medium tank. 

 

I'm not a great player but I have 100s of matches in each of The T54Mod1, the T-44-100, and the T-44 from the tech tree, and the T-44 is thankfully the best, but only by a little bit. The T-44-100 is a great tank for Frontline, but the T-54 mod 1 falls badly behind in mobility, gun handling, and reload time in exchange for a small armor buff.

 

TL;DR: Wait for the T-44-100 if you need a Tier VIII Russian premium medium tank.

Well... That show it's good at seal clubbing when top tier.

And honestly it's the only thing it's good at.

It's mobility is too low to be a real flanker, it's gun handling is too bad to be a reliable brawler.

 

I have had very good games in this tank, but not as much as expected from a Russian up-armored medium.

There are certainly worse tier 8 meds. That being said, would trade it for a T44-100 in a heartbeat.

Got both. Prefer the Mod 1 for randoms and the 44-100 for FL.

 

Two marked the Mod 1 easily enough and think its a beast if you play it right.

 

Totally different playstyles to each other of course, so not sure its fair to compare.

I warmly reccomend TO BUY this tank, by far best stats in it for me and I'm an average player. I don't see the point of buying T-44-100 when you can buy ordinary T-44 and put 100mm barrel on it and you have the same tank.

T-54 prot. 1 is great tank, but you need to move, snipe only when you are hidden, as he has great cammo and can ding a lot in front battle, you can outgun IS-3 1 on 1, that is because when you ding one shot, enemy DPM falls drasticly. Biggest issue is penetration and noone of those pros didin't mention it.  Speed is seccond, but I don't care as far as I know that I will go in brawl without any fear.

So we see that premium (T-44-100) has:
- 0.09 better aim time
- 0.01 better aim at tank traverse, moving and turret traverse
- 1 km/h faster forward speed
- better terrain resistance
- 50 hp more

BUT, what ordinary T-44 has better:
- 455 kg more (if you hit some lights or td's)
- better tank traverse effective
- 180 hp stronger engine
- 31.29m longer radio range
- 3% less fire chance

So all in all buying T-44-100 is wasting of money because that tank line is most easiest to play in WoT, all tanks are beautifull and easy to play.

a fail tank...it's a med with no speed and armour for tier 8 but you will play 90% of games in tier 10 so useless basically.So glad i got rid of it

Purchased this T-54 FP today as I wanted a crew trainer for my Soviet mediums. Its not terrible but its not great either. Its basicly a maxed out T-44 (although its worse in some aspects like top speed) Dont believe the WG guff "...The T-54 First Prototype actually packs the resilience of a heavy" as you will be continually penned by everyone, even T6. The turret is ok but even that isnt amazing as the gun mantel is only 200mm. If this was a real product you could sue for false/misleading  description. On top of this the MM is horrendous. Expect to face T10 nearly every battle where your pitiful armour will count for nothing. I would advise people to avoid and I havent seen anyone else post anything remotely positive about this "premium" vehicle either.

WG needs to change the match making of some tanks. Tanks that do less than 390 damage per shot, should not see tier 10. For example the defender is okay in tier 10 but not this or let's say panther 8.8. All these mediums should not really be in tier 10 BUT WG is out of this world anyway.
