I was in a game and, stupidly, allowed myself to fall off a bridge. Whilst trying to help me, the other player accidentally TKed me. I don't believe that he should be penalized for this. This penalty will deter him from trying to help in the future..

It has already deterred many from helping depending on how they flip.

The issue is that even so, it's not that easy to make a system that sees the difference between deliberate or accidental/helping team or crush damage. You could argue that if the system sees you on the side or on the roof, the system should see it differently once someone starts to push you. But then it could be abused the other way too.

You are absolutely correct, the system cannot differentiate between assistance and team killing. Maybe a manual notification system. If you were TKed, a button could pop up giving the dead tanker an option to inform the system whether it was a TK or assistance?

A forgive feature could help the automatic system, it did back in the RtCW days.

Actually not a bad idea. As any automated system will have flaws either way and give wrongful bans or blue status.  A simple prompt would do the trick. As it's less likely abused as such.
