I just finished the grind to the maus under the impression that it was going to be fun too play just to find that it just gets arty'd to kingdom come and gets melted by gold ammo. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong and I angle the turret and the Hull correctly but still get melted. Was wondering if anyone else had any extra tips for playing the tank?

  • Practice your angling and side scraping with a friend in a training room to know what are your best angling.

  • Use a lot of gold ammo since the standard pen is kind of meh. Use chocolate if you have credits to boost your crew skills further.
  • Don't trust your armor more than your brain. If in doubt, don't take the hit based on your enemy and your position.
  • Watch replays from www.wotreplays.eu to make a set of good positions and reference situations on different maps. That will help your decision making in the battle.
  • It's almost always the case with heavily armored tanks. The closer you get to your enemies, the more exposed and easier to hit your weak spots will be. Use distance and your fairly accurate gun to do damage without taking any.
  • The Maus got good DPM but its alpha is on low side so make sure your position allows you to shoot twice (at least) for every shot the enemy takes at you.
  • Kind of obvious but don't take unnecessary risks. The best Maus drivers are the cool ones, don't rush unless the enemy team is folding.

Good luck!

step 1) load nothing but premium ammo

step 2) wiggle everything

step 3) press W

Simple: Don't play the Maus.

The tank is too situational and is shadowed by newer and / or overbuffed heavies.

This man mouses ^. As a new Maus driver I got it during the ToT and fought exactly 100 battles with it (with pretty bad results). Will vote for almost all to those points but the chocolate - arty and other big caliber HE will make you burn uncomfortably often. And when you burn, you will burn a lot of HP.

Sobering fact no 2 is that 340+ pen HEAT will go through no matter how you angle your tank so avoid getting hit as much as possible.

Always have backup, when they get your side you're done with, no more bounces.

Frankly, I didn't have a pleasant time with Maus as it's only somewhat good at blocking a corridor in full tierX, you'll wait till either your or enemys other flank will crumble and the mop-up phase starts.

As a top tier in 3-5-7 you _still_ cannot go all in without proper support cause you usually have have an opposing FV4005 or JpzE100 that just laugh at your armor.

I'd also say that best Maus bouncing angle feels like overangling in other tanks, so is not intuitive, nor is turret angling, so those two factors take a while to get used to.

You currently have 55% wr in your Maus.. which is higher than your global.

The Maus is an odd tank as it's basically a horrible blocker/spoiler, pushing in it is alway very risky as it can get isolated and the flat armour gets exposed. You need to learn when to take a hit or not, odd tactics like tempting shots by arty ( I hope you have spall liner installed ) if the enemy arty is hammering your steel box for 100hps of damage he isn't hitting your meds of papers tds for 500+ this gives your team far more chance.

You are basically the team punchbag, just workout when its a good time to take a punch :)

Find hard cover, never cross open areas and stay away from Type 5 Heavies

You have to angle the turret more than the hull. If you make it right, effective armour will be 340 everywhere, which will bounce loads of gold ammo. Especially at some distance if you don't stand still. Overangle your tracks a bit against heat spammers. Most other heavies are not too difficult to deal with if you avoid picking fights with the hulldown monsters. Low pen tanks like the IS-7 you can pretty much chew up without losing much hp in return.

Biggest downside with Maus is the mobility. Sometimes the batttle is already over before you've been able to do anything useful.
