My in-game name was japtank since game launch - I know, stupid name but my name is Japualtah and I didn't know when creating the account that it would be displayed everywhere, whatever - and when logging in today, my name is RenamedUser_503152513

I had to laugh at first, because who in his right mind - except some Type5 hater - would report my name, but I don't want to have to pay gold for a name change.

Do I have to open a ticket or shall support reach out to me to request a new name?

Cheers.

If this weren't the forums of WG, I would be asking if you were serious or not.

Contact support and suggest an available name for them. They'll change it for free.

I think the only option is to change your given name! I suggest Rocco, or Bronson, or something manly like that!

How the hell could that break any rules? For example can't I, as a Swede, take the name swetank? CS is gonna have to employ three more teams to handle all reports of players with nation hints in their names. :D

This is starting to get rather ridiculous, all these recent name changes are really starting to show an obvious picture of a system that's not working correctly, which wouldn't be a first in WG's case...

The term "Jap" is consider (racially, derogatory) offensive to a degree by some, you'll get that kind of reaction mostly in the US (california ) and Canada and probably even the UK (And I guess the rest of the commonwealth)

shouldn't be too surprising that the "sensitivity" is spreading to the rest of Europe.

I suppose WG is trying to pander to the potential/existing Asian playerbase.... Say, how is the Asian server doing nowadays?

Well, ”Jap” is considered derogatory. But still. Quite draconian.

EDIT: Did not see TPpie message.

Better than the NA server, afaik.

NA has only ~1,452% active players compared to total registered.

SEA has 2,092% active compared to total registered.

For reference, EU has 3,337% active vs. total.

Also, wut @ forced rename.

Anyhow, might I suggest renaming yourself to murikatank instead, given your most played nation?

Or maybe that Japualtah thingy you mentioned, since it appears to be free for the moment.

Alternatively, No1_Nishi_fan to show your adoration to me. :P

I didn't know this but apparently "Jap" is indeed an offensive and/or derogatory word but not sure if this also applies to the EU. But his name is apparently Japualtah so he probably meant well but another random player cannot possibly know that and may get offended. Maybe if he would rename it to JapuTank it would be okay. I also understand why the name-filter did not catch this.

Interesting though to see another rename topic.

This^

Just because someone

complains/feels offended/has nothing better to do

Doesn't mean you have to listen to him/her/x.

Everybody is entitled to have an opinion, fine, but that doesn't mean they have the right to be listened to.

I feel that a truly draconian response would have been to ban the account without warning!

Where does that word "draconian" come from?

reminds me of the https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Order_of_the_Dragon

but that might be a misconception

**edit: found it:

https://en.wiktionar.../wiki/draconian

From the Athenian lawmaker Draco, known for making harsh laws.

Used to work on JAP engines many years ago, https://en.m.wikiped...wich_Industries

So the name is embodied in the English language as an 'icon' of engineering excellence.

The latter yes, and while his laws might've been "harsh", they were posted in every town square for all to read.
