You get banned for an hour. For the first time in over 60K games. However, here is the thing: I hadn't turned blue. Apart from an accident with bumping into someone for 40 dmg, I haven't even dealt any team damage. So when I defended myself from some nice person who was trying to tk me for no good reason, I didn't expect to get banned outright.

And no, I am not a habitual tk'er.

So I am a little confused here. Got tk'ed earlier today by a nice gent who asserted I stole his kill - pretty amazing since I countered an unspotted arty. He got to play on. So what is different here? The fact I shot twice? Did the rules change? Help me out here, since I would like to be sure not to get banned again.

was the one you shot just by chance standing in any cap circle?

PS: I know you are actually a nice person to have in platoon

PPS: detracking someone also counts towards teamdamage

Shooting someone when blue isn't the only way to get banned. There are several things you can do to get punished "harsher" than normal friendly fire. One is as above shooting friendlies who are capping, another is to repeatedly shoot the same friendly. When you reach shot 3, it is usually autoban regardless of priors.

I thought it was the second shot, but perhaps my first shot didn't hit the enemy tank like I thought it did, but it bounced off the guy that subsequently went on to try and kill me. Seems to be a likely explanation. Thanks. :-)

@Pans: Thanks. :-) It wasn't in the cap circle.

Each HP counts as an individual strike. So, 40HP = 40 hits.

Beyond 2 = ban.

Don't quote me on that but I've seen people getting missions completed like this, so I extrapolate it can happen for team damage too. Have a word with support.

Balc0ra might be able to shed more light in this, since he knows a lot about WoT. Kind of our senpai.

I got banned once because a teammate ran in front of me while I was unloading my clip in a T7 combat car (10 shells per mouse click). Instant ban.

I get the idea, but it's pretty simplistic.

That is only true if you are on top of somebody. A single bump is just that, a single hit. I doubt support is going to care much about a 1 hour ban already served. :-)

That said, I saw somebody else getting himself banned after the second shot that killed somebody. Might be they changed the rules a bit.

If you don't get a short ban every once in a while, your heart clearly isn't into it.

Are you sure that it's a teamdamage ban then? What does the message on the login screen say?
Other bans often hit out of nowhere.

In update 9.3  (Late summer 2014) they introduced a medal called Battle Buddy. You started playing 3 months before me, and have 10k more battles. I have 602 battle buddies yet often accidentally damage my team mates (especially as I play more arty than you), and yet you have only 355. Now it'd possible you played most of your battles before the medal came in, but I think more likely that you do more team damage than you are admitting to. Even with the number of medals I have, I have turned blue 3 times.

Going back to your question though, I got an instant ban once when I fell on a team mate, crushing his tank to death, and was blue next time I signed in.

Does it?

It must not as we tend to shoot each others tracks off all the time. some times even 10 times in a single game when im tooning with my brother and neither of us got banned.

I am not a saint, but I rarely tk. I have shot friendlies in self defense, or when their behaviour really called for it. For example, continued blocking, pushing or other kinds of trolling. Then there is CW with CW fun. :-)

Yep, 100% sure. The message telling me I got a 1h ban for friendly fire was pretty clear. :-)

I've only had a 1hr ban once I think... Was years ago.

Was my last game before going to bed and we had a light tank camping behind arty so I killed him.

It felt good and I slept well that night :)

What you see as legitimate self defence is seen by the game as simple team damage. There is no principle of self defence in WoT, you've just let someone troll you into getting banned.

Did they fix that award yet?

I remember getting one in the same tank I had accidentally damaged a team mate with a couple of battles earlier.  I would be very wary of using it as any kind of guideline.

As long as you don't get banned again anytime soon, the counter will reset so if it then happens again,  it'll be an hour been, not a day.
So don't worry about it much.

Well, I have 467 battle buddies.

I have got the blue warning once. Never turned blue, never been banned.

So its not that simple to estimate behaviour of the player based on BB medals alone.

It depends really on what part of the fifty games cycle you happen to damage friendlies.

My two cents...

This indeed. Just be a little carefull for the next days. I have had 8 one hour bans so far and never got one longer than that.
