MeTaLMooSe's Photo MeTaLMooSe 20 Dec 2011

This is the one tank im looking forward to in the British tech tree.
I only hope WG do it historical justice and give us the best MBT in the game. It would make up for the dire junk we'll have to grind through to get there!
If the WG devs take it as far as the IDF Sho't version we can expect a T54 killer!
I'll buy as much free XP as needed to drive this masterpiece and forefather of the British MBT when they came of age.

Centurion rules, I hope it will be as good in the game as it was in reality.

Donforce's Photo Donforce 20 Dec 2011

I predict it wont be as heavily armoured as a t54 but its gun should be top notch, penetration, accuracy AND fire rate should be high.

Also check this from wikipedia:
"The first tank to be equipped with the L7 was the Centurion Mark 5 in 1959." *

So we should technically get all 3 guns - 17 pdr, 20 pdr and the 105 l7  B)

I would add more on but i took an arrow in the knee...

Anyways check out this and see what you think this tank should have/be like in WoT: http://en.wikipedia..../Centurion_tank

Would love to play it, got to ride in an actual one few years back. Don't know about the top speed though, got used to playing American mediums and their top speed of around 48 km/h. Centurion had 34, if I'm not mistaken.

This one will be a lovely tier 9 medium. Also because the current german 105 L/52 ausf.B is supposedly an equivalent of the L7 :)
For the heavy line there is the conqueror :)

Same Calibre and length does not equate to same performance.

let me LOL. They made the 105 L/52 ausf. B according to the L7 (at least thats what I think they said)...what reference do you think will they use for making the in-game L7? The 120 L/55 on Leo 2 A6? No, I dont think so.
But yes, the performance in game will be different, it cant be exactly the same.

It doesn't really matter what they decide to call the top gun. It will be gun with stats for balance, not historicity. And related to that, I've never heard of L7 having AP(C/BC/CBC) shell anyway, so it's just a question of inventing it if they decide to use L7.

As for gun accuracy, the Patton tanks (from M47 onward at least, which introduced both ballistic computer and stereoscopic RF for US meds) were also quite accurate, certainly more so than any Soviet production tank until T-64. Looking at M46 ingame (with M47 turret) it seems quite apparent that accuracy is mostly determined by the underlying gameplay theme of the techtree and balance rather than by whatever eqipment the real vehicle might have carried.

Centurion getting destroyed by an ATGM. Fitting to this thread

It was loaded with its standard ammo/fuel loadout, remote controlled for the test. Pretty cool how the ammo starts to cook up after the missile hits it

We need effects like that in game!!!

We DO NOT need infantry man packing those evil projectiles of satan though! Im thankful WoT is armour only, unlike BF1942 and it's Forgotten Hope mod. (sigh! happy memories).

It is safe to say that the centurion was the best post war tank untill the 1960's. Even beyond that.

After WW2, the centurion with its 20 PDR gun, was capable of penetrating soviet MBT's like the T54 frontally at any range, this is because they where equipped with APDS arounds aswel, wich gave it a whopping 287mm penetration at 1000 meters.

standard APCBC did 210mm penetration

The Golan Heights are littered with hundreds of wrecked Soviet made tanks that begged to differ with the Centurion. :P
