You can say whatever you want about them but they are truly brilliant when it comes to selling their stuff.

step 1. open black market and give us very little info so it looks mysterious

step 2. let people buy black dog for credits all of sudden, freaking tier 8 tank for 5 milion!

step 3. at this point everyone talk about this so give them some time to spread the news, also let them find out golden type 59 in the game

step 4. after 25 hours throw in golden 59 for sale out of nowhere.

step 5. make 80000€ profit in 3 minutes by selling reskinned virtual vehicle that does not even technically belong to people that bought it

Brilliant, absolutely brilliant. Black dog was just a bait to spread info in the community.

I have nothing against this vehicle of people that bought it, I just really think wg is a genius by making this move.

It's called "marketing".

You missed a very important bit, no premium shop. You must be in front of the game client and possibly playing the game to use these offers! :)

Perhaps it is a way to deflate the amount of credits and gold, after the inflating of it after the two Christmas events.

If you think about premium ammo rebalance for a minute, WG talked about a possible credits reduction they were contemplating. Wich would not work out well if a large % of the player base was bathing in either credits or gold.

Thus a tactic like this Black Market event could perhaps be a good deflate mechanics lowering the ingame lever gold and credit to more appropriate levels for said earlier contemplations.

This is only a way for WG to make more money.

Soon we will send Chieftain as a T10 premium or something.

To be frankly, 80.000 € is not susch a big money for WG.  (Or any company with the size of WG).

But if WG can increase WoT's popularity and its playerbase, that is gold.

Perhaps not. But it was 80000€ in 3 minutes. :)

Also, it did cost them next to nothing to create that "product". Since it existed for a long time.

80k is nothing

they will lose more in the long run as perceived premium vehicles value is dropping

Shall I explain why this is important? Or do you want to?

I'll go. If it's in the game, it is part of the game. Not commerce. You have no consumer rights. If they delete them from your account in a week and give you the gold back, you have no comeback... They won't though, they just release a new premium tier 8 medium that's better next month for £40. They still have your real money.

That was not what i meant actually. Buying from the client is the same as the premium shop regarding your rights as far as i know. What i meant is the engineering of a server population bubble during the event, same as marathons. There is a distinction here between making revenues and making the servers busy or at least that's how i see it!

actually its not that "smart"... mostly because they could have had a lot more money by selling off other rare premiums first before the Dinger59 turned up.

few tanks, if any, are as wanted as the Type 59 is, so they should have had it 3/4 of the way through or so, to get people spending first, and then want to spend even more for this tank.

if WG are after money, this was a missed opportunity :P

You haven't bought from the client. You bought gold from the shop. The gold is a product, nit a currency. Everything after that is part of a game, not a legal transaction. There is a lot of work underway to deal with this legally, but no legislation is in place yet. It's a bit like the old buy some tickets at the door. Swap tickets for alcohol. Are they selling tickets or alcohol. Legal grey area. Once you go past legal tender it's very murky.

Oddly enough,  I thought of this very type of idea, a flash sale as such for WG to have periodically a while back as I noticed interest in WOT was decreasing, I never thought they'd do such a thing though?...

I did chuckle rather much though when I saw the Gold Type59 for sale ,and was gobsmaked how quick it sold out!

Anyways, I got me a E25 and Defender at Christmas, the rest is imaterial really to me...

Good marketing WG, hope you re-grow your player-base from this, bad stuff some squids will buy tanks they're gonna suck in...

Must log in to have a look at the gold type 59 though. Had a few wines. Might be tempted to roll out. Never works.

It existed for a long time... but only on the Chinese server. No other server had the golden version of the Type 59.

Honestly i couldn't care less, if they offered something and i went ahead and bought it. Everybody is happy and everybody got what they wanted. Can't see a problem with that? Did you ever buy something in the client with gold or credits and WG took it back? Have you ever heard of something like that from the millions playing WOT over 9 years now?

WG did a good job in this event in my opinion. They offered tier 8 premiums for credits which is a first and will help a lot people and encourage them to play the game and they offered a rare tank for a lot of gold to collectors who like that sort of thing.

I'm not disagreeing with you, I just assumed that's what you were talking about. WG cleverly circumvent consumer protection laws this way. Whether they abuse that or not is another question, it would be poor marketing to do so. I thought the overselling of OP tanks at tier eight was marketing suicide, but considering the rapid offloading of the gold Type 59, I'd have to admit I was wrong.

Nah. Major whales are too invested in this game to just quit. It's a kind of trap is you think about it. Invested too much money so now they cannot really quit, so instead they keep pouring more money into the game.

I wonder how many of you is still playing only because you invested money and you don't want to think it would be wasted if you just stop playing now. Be honest with yourself. :)

Genius? If they hadn't put an arbitrary cap on sales they could've gotten more sales. I don't work standard office hours so when I get home and log into the game all I see is "sold out". GG WP I guess.
