IS - what equipment and best crew skills for this tech tree?

Hiho Guys,

I will be really thankfull for Your advices. Actually on KV-85(soon IS) i have crew with one skill(6th sense and repair for the rest), mine target after IS3 will be probably Obj. 277.

For the KV-85, or the IS, equipment: Rammer, Vents and enhanced gun laying drive (GLD for short). Some people will prefer optics over the GLD but the base view range is pretty low to start with. From the IS-3 upwards use a vertical stabilizer Mk.2 (V-stab) instead of the GLD.

 

As for crew skills...

 

Commander: 6th sense, BIA, repairs, recon, situational awareness

Gunner: repairs, BIA, snap shot

Driver: repairs, BIA, smooth ride

Loader: repairs, BIA, safe stowage

 

I wouldn't choose the 277 as my first tier 10 though. It's a good tank and the previous one, the T-10, is also good but both of them are fast with little hull armor. Being fragile makes them a little hard to play while the other line leading to the IS-7 is much more armored.

 

The IS-7 and the 257 are well armored, a little slower and their guns are a bit worse than the other two. Both are sturdy enough to forgive a mistake or two in your first few tier 10 battles.

For all Soviet heavies:

1) Rammer

2) Aiming assistant: Vstab if available, GLD if not.

3) Vents or Optics.I prefer Optics, even if you can't reach the maximum view range.

 

Crew:

BiA

Sixth sense

Repairs

Just nitpicking here, but you should prioritise Repairs over BiA; the difference it makes for heavy tanks is huge. Also, for very specific Soviet heavies, you can consider using Rammer, Vents and GLD if you feel the gun is far too problematic; otherwise, the previous advice still holds. Between Vents and Optics, though, I'd pick Vents for Soviet heavies; you tend to favour close-up brawling, and Vents give you a longer-term advantage during most games as a result.
