I like to play arty in this game, its easy and less stressful than playing tds. But being a commited arty player I get a lot flak on this forum when I try be positive with things conserning arty. Ingame comment can also be tuff to handle. So what im asking for tips is how to play arty positively aka maybe not focusing on top wn8 player, not on hulldown tanks, not certain clans etc. Are there other things that could lessen the toll arty has on gameplay?

Turn off chat.

Try to help supporting your team rather than just looking for tanks you can shoot.

Look at the mini map most of the time.

Look for where your team is pushing or falling back.  Can you help support to either get one flank to push through, or the other flank hold?  Look for targets your team is going to struggle to pen.  You might only do 200 dmg to a type heavy but it's still 200 more than a lot of your team mates will be able too.

Don't shoot if there are allies nearby that might stray into your shot.  Remember they are likely spotted so are under far more pressure than you are, so it's always your fault if you shoot them.  A good way to avoid taking a lot of damage from multiple enemies is to get close to one of them so the others can't hit you, so don't be surprised if allies do this even if you've marked the target.

There's very little you can do to stop the comments you'll receive for playing arty as it's considered a broken mechanic by some/many, mainly for the reasons you say you play it, i.e. it's easy compared to everything else in the game almost to the point of cheating.  In short you need to be thick skinned if you're going to play arty with chat turned on & even that wont save you from certain players who'll block your gun or generally troll you in game.  While I agree with their sentiments I certainly don't support their behaviour, the forum is a far better place to express these types of opinions.

I think one of the main things for enjoyable game is:

1. stop caring what people think

2. stop caring what your ween8 value is

3. shoot stuff & have fun.

If you like arty, play arty.

First, ignore the trolls, which means most people in the forums when it comes to arty.

Always mark your target to let your team know where you will shoot so they don't run into your shell.

Never fire to close to a friendly, you may hit them.

If you see 2 tanks engaging at close quarters or circling each other, don't shoot, again you may hit a friendly.

Don't hesitate to take out an enemy with only a couple of HP left; it will NOT be a lost shell, it will be an enemy out of the game.

If your goal is to do as much damage as possible, go play another class.

As arty my goal is to support my team as efficiently as possible, meaning focus on support instead of damage.

At times I will lose a few rounds knowing very well I will NOT do damage but stunning the enemy heavies engaging our own, that can greatly help them.

That works for me. Hopefully this may give you some ideas. Good luck out there.

Taking out leaving enemies with 5 hp,

Covering the back of your isolated team mates,

... anything that is meant to help your team guys and not make them feel like some vulture behind their back.

I used to like playing counterbattery pre-1.0, but my fps is sooooo bad after 1.0 I can't see the tracers, which makes it really hard.

Whinners will whine. You can't do nothing about it. Just be useful to your team.

And yes, that means you should focus skilled player. They are the most danger to your team. Regardless of the tank they are playing.

I don't focus on special clans unless the players are exceptionally skilled. Some few clans are famous for having only extremly good players in their rooster.

And do the job your class is supposed to be doing:

  • A hull down tank (something like a super conqueror at a ridgeline) is a primary target. Your team can't do that much against that guy. That is your job!
  • A scout hugging a rock and spotting your team. It will take a lot of hits to splash that bugger out, but an enemy team without eyes is not that huge problem any more.
  • Sometimes it's worth to counter the enemy arty. Most of the times your team your team profits more by supporting your heavy line. But when you see your dudes suffering real bad, try to take out the other arty.

Just dont drown yourself. Otherwice only broblem with arty is wg.

Wg needs to balanse arty a bt more. More constant splash damage to heavily armored targets, less damage and less pens from direct hits, bigger spash, a lot worse gunhandling, lower dpm, maximium 2 arties per team, no stun remowal from medikits (only lessen the stun effect, lower accuracy.

Just shoot as much as  you can. I mean don't wait too long for spoted enemies. Shoot to obvious camping bushes and you will get good results and pissed off enemies. If you ever played TD or light tank, you should know the places they hide. I usually have double amount of shots compared other arty players in a battle.
