Without any doubt one of the best tank destroyer guns of its era and it is demoted in this game to just an ordinary medium low alpha  77 mm gun. Anyone who has read the history of this gun will know that it was absolutely deadly in close combat. Forget about the ratings of this gun and remember that in the real world,  this gun could destroy Panthers and Tigers in one shot!!

realism =/= arcade

WoT is an arcade game, the hitpools should been fair assumption for that already for that point

besides any penetrating shot can be deadly for a tank, realism wise

17pdr isnt a great gun but not too bad either, atleast it has omegalul pen

What this gun lacks in alpha it makes up for in plenty of penetration. That i believe is how its real life performance is represented in the game since WOT uses hit points. For example, 171mm standard and 239mm gold on the Sherman Firefly is awesome for a tier 6 medium. Also considering how fast this gun fires in the game, i don't see you complaining about the historical RPM! :)

One shot kills on tanks are not generally a WoT thing.

Indeed, great gun... one firefly once destroyed 3 tiger tanks in Normandy with only 5 shells being one of the Tigers the number 007 commanded by the infamous Michael Wittmann

But not only that gun is underrated, the Panther stock 75 mm was a great gun too. that could have a different punch in this game, even consider its arcade features, it should at the very least be a little bit better than the 85mm equiped on T-34-85's... because caliber its not everything, both 17 pdr and the panther 75 had were knock out guns

for a guy that has 30k games played you should know that anything that was good/perfection during its time in the realworld  (tiger/panther/firefly/leo1) etc sucks in this game and is destroyed by blueprint/non existant tanks most of the time , by mostly russia since russian game (defender/obj279e/430u)

Tanks in game are not a representative of what they were IRL, the Tiger never fought most of the tanks it meets in the battlefield, the Sherman or T-34 would never fight anything more that Tigers and Panthers, and so on. Tier VII tanks meet T-10s and T-54s, of course their guns, although IRL, might have been legendary, will not perform.

World of tanks is an arcade game, tanks just gently glide across terrain and feel more like cars than actual tanks, can climb ridiculous inclines, also can fall down without ruining suspension, slide down without throwing the track, repair broken track in seconds when under live fire, dead crew members can be revived, enemy tanks have nice outlines when you are targeting them, game is also kind enough to let you know how much more do you need to shoot at them to kill them, you have a superpower that tells you when an enemy tank sees you, you can shoot without compensating for shell drop, your gun is apparently a hologram and can go through things without getting stuck or being damaged, you can drive through buildings without them collapsing on you and trapping your tank, you can destroy some buildings but some others are indestructible even to gun fire, tanks regularly engage in melees, ramming into tanks is a very valid combat tactic...

And you complain about an arbitrary gun not killing enemy tanks instantly? I think you would much more enjoy *that* other game which I won't name because of the wargaming rules. That other game tries to be a simulator, world of tanks doesn't.

lets make all guns one shot and see how campy the game will get after players realise that you cant rush anything because you would die instantly.

What would be more ideal, but not realistic in terms of the game would be to have era tanks limited to facing off only against other tanks of that same era.

I’d hate to think how long a wait in queue would be, however

I saw this thread title and hoped it was about a gigantic hamburger, that's how much I care about the relationship between World of Tanks and the real world. This is a game of numbers that represent events in a gamified manner, not a simulator. I imagine very few shots in real life were NOT detrimental to an actual tank if it penetrated its armour and blew the people and equipment up inside, rather than people miraculously dodging explosive or highly impactful solid matter or when finding their physical body occupying the same space as hot metal were able to shrug it off with a medpack.

It's has the highest penetration and alpha damage among all ~76 mm guns so I wouldn't call it "an ordinary medium low alpha  77 mm gun". FFS, american 76 mm has 128 mm pen and 115 damage and german 7.5 cm has 135 damage and 150 mm penetration - this is standard for ~76 mm guns and 17 pdr is well above it.

So I don't know what you want. Because for me, real-life performance of this gun is reflected in the game by its stats, surpassing all ~76 mm guns.
