Hello tankers!

Over the last couple of months I conducted a poll on which non-premium regular tech tree tanks per tank class & tier are considered must-haves by the community. These are not strictly speaking "the best" or "OP" tanks, but tanks which are iconic, fun, unique, historic, good for missions, so ugly you have to have them, etc etc which those that contributed to the poll consider to be tanks everyone should have in their garage. Especially check out those tanks that are listed in bold since they won the poll by more than 10 votes difference with the 2nd place tank.

Link to the final result: http://forum.worldof...lass-tier-iv-x/

My idea behind it all was that some players consider owning all (relevant) T10 tanks as the endgame, others view 3-marking all tanks as their endgame, or Ace-tanking all the tanks, etc etc. Ultimately, there is no endgame, except what we set for ourselves personally. I must admit I dont have one. I am an ok'ish player, and probably will never be a 'good' player, so stuff like 3-marking everything is a bridge too far.

So, I ran the poll looking for some inspiration what tank lines / specific tanks to grind for, and make that (part of) my goals in the game. And who knows, maybe I will have inspired some of you in a same fashion, especially some of you new(er) players who might wonder: "what nation / line do I grind (next)".

TL/DR: What line / nation per class should I grind?

LT: German LTs up to T5, French autoloaders & USSR LT line up to T10, with a couple of specialist / meme tanks (like the T49)

MT: UK line up to T8, USSR line up to T10

HT: UK higher tier line (if you can survive the T5-7 grind), USSR Obj.277 and IS-7 line (US Tier 7 is a definate must-have!)

TD: UK Turreted TD line is well represented in several of the top 3s, as well as both the USSR TD lines.

SPG: US line

Hope you guys and gals find it useful, and never hesitate to ask questions!

Hi Dutch,

I missed the poll and never voted but stuck at work since early this morning, this was a good read and some insightful info. Totally agree about the T-29 US heavy at Tier 7. Every noob in the game who wants to play heavies should go there first. It's just so good to learn in.

Also think the Italian medium line should also be a noobs first port of call as they are forgiving and carry enough armour at most tiers for you to get away with the odd mistake.

Love the Russian tanks too though.

Anyway, thanks again. Very enjoyable start to my day.

I say don't start a line that you are not inclined to reach top tier. Also is good to look for lines that can provide some keepers at tier 6 and 8.

So US like for SPG is a good one. But i seem to find most enjoyment from the top UK arty. This line downside is that it kind of sucks until the top tiers, t8 and 9 are fairly good but not something wow to qualify as keepers.

If you don't intend on getting the top UK MT then tier 6 should be the tier you stop, there is no reason to go until tier 8. But then again the t6 RU is pretty good for team related events, so i would advice spreading after a player reached tier 10 with one two tanks and has some game experience and now wants to get in to the team/clan based game play more serious. But if that's the case, there are plenty of premiums that can take that role with ease.

Chinese heavies are good alternatives for the USSR ones.

The Italians have armor? The Progetto's are my favority tanks, but I never noticed any of that armor you speak of :P

But yes, I missed them too, but they might be less forgiving then you think. If you want to get the most out of the DPM you constantly have to think "Am I going to need this shot 30 seconds from now?" which is not very noob-friendly. Bu then again, even without maximizing your DPM they are good tanks with good gun-handling and mobility. Must have IMO

Thinking more of the tier 4 and 5 when I talk about forgiving and a little armour. After that they are a bit thin but those guns look more than enough to make up for it. I've played the Italians up to Tier 5 and have got the tier 6 ready to buy. Just getting the crew and free xp up to where I need them first. No stock grinds for me!! I've found the line way more noob friendly and educational so far than the British or US lines. I also bought the Progetto and that thing is just god-like. It's insanely fun to play and I only have a basic 100% crew in it!! Trying to get to the Tier 8 Italian before July's FL and then I can run those two and the FV4202, IS-3A and Defender. Should keep me happy in FL.

But I take your point about the higher tier Italians being a little on the paper side. :)

Tier 8, 9 and 10 british heavies would be my choice from this list. Their guns are just awesome, good turret armor, gun depression, good pen and enough DPM to help you out of a bad situation.

I still believe that the black prince is not a bad tank among tier 7 heavies. Sure it's slow and doesn't have a good alpha but it worked for me! :)

It's a good tank in slow developing games, but not for the currently frequently occuring 4 minutes games with everyone dashing everywhere just to get some damage done, it's just too slow for that. I just finished my grind and for the most part I underperformed because the game was over too quickly, either you trail behind the flock or you get gang-banged by rushing enemies.

Sure slower battles and smaller maps works the best for this tank but i just love fast firing guns. Now put that on a rugged platform like the BP and i am happy! :)

To be honest, the day the news came out about it and the T54E2. I quickly wrote a few words about the T54E2 and spent about half an hour looking at the black prince's model trying to guess which parts of the turret are being downgraded from 240mm to 152.4mm. So yeah i kinda of love this tank and years ago i used to enjoy the Churchill 3. :)
