Started playing T49 and like it. Got Optics and Vents on it but I find myself playing it less as a pure scout as with my other lights and more as a either ridge fighter or long distance sniper. I'm using the normal gun not derp. What should I pick as my third option to help me shoot things?

vstab/rammer/optic would be best choice

if not going/able to demount vents then just vent/rammer/optic

I don't have the T49 but I'd say vstabs on the basis that a GLD only works when you're stationary and not moving your gun.

If it is a normal gun go for stabs as you will fire a lot more on the move. Gun laying drive is only for guns with abysmal aiming times.

First of all: why are you not using a rammer? You should have a rammer on literally every tank you have, unless it is for a specific CW role.

Secondly: definitely VStabs. If you were using the derp, the choice would be less clear-cut.

Tank can scout as good as any tank so do not give up on that one as long as you stay 'Active' ...got my first ever 10k spotting game in it http://wotreplays.eu/site/4608050#prokhorovka-danger__uxb-t49

Also;...152 all the way..:justwait:

Vert stabs/Optics/Vents...

...the vents helps alot with the bad (ish) traverse speed amongst other things.(Mobility keeps you alive)

Optics;.. to abuse the already great V/R especially needed when facing 'Murrica meds'...

Thanks guys. I do play it as a scout at start of battles, where possible, but since it's a capable fighter I usually end up fighting a lot more than I have been lately playing other lights. V Stabs it is then.

This tank is 'Multi-role' ...it can play as a light tank or a med and thats the beauty of it...

Situation at the time in the game should dictate how you will play the tank along with where you are in the team line up?..

  • Bottom tier;... play as a light/Scout...dropping in as a med now and then as needed.(As long as no other lights?...Be flexible)
  • Mid tier;......... play as both (If another light take on the light role leave him to it till he dies  and play as a med/Light on the other flank)....when he dies take over the light role..
  • Top tier;......... play as a med (Unless no other lights then do both roles?)

...In short play is as a light/Med hybrid that can play as needed (Pretty well) as the situation dictates all through the game...Be flexible as this tank can shine in either roles.

Vstab always gives a bigger improvement to the time it takes to fully than GLD because of the way aim time and dispersions work.

The Vstab means you start with a smaller aim circle.

So...

Honestly these days I mount rammer, vstab and optics on everything that isn't artillery, unless it can't (in which GLDs replace the Vstab) or has ridiculous viewrange anyway and will nearly always be brawling (in which case Vents replace Optics).

In the current meta, the things I value most are 1) The ability to react quickly, so that's aiming and firing before the enemy gets to withdraw and/or firing before they can react to my presence if I know I get spotted before I fire, and 2) spot everything within 445m that isn't behind a bush, in which case I still want to spot it when it fires.

Even if you're not playing something as a scout, you want something that tries to snipe you to get spotted so you and your allies can fire at it or at worst, supress the position and force the tank to hide for at least 10 seconds. Even my heavies with decent viewrange get optics, because they'll simply be spotting the tanks sniping them after the brawling's done and the last thing you want is for them to fire at you unspotted. If you're the sniper in your T49, you'll want to spot them at range as early as you can, be able to aim quickly so they don't reduce the range too much, and fire another shot ASAP. So that's always rammer, vents, optics IMHO.
