Wargaming.net is finally going to abandon the standalone launcher for World of Tanks.

Soon, everybody will be using the Game Centre.

And? You say that like it is a bad thing......

For those of us who play multiple WG games it is a handy little tool. Don't see the problem with it myself :-)

The thing I miss is the launch video.

There used to be an awesome video with tanks racking across fields, splashing through water, tanks exploding, turrets flying through the air, trams doing somersaults and scenes from a factory with turrets being lowered into place .... all with a great sound track.

That all seems to be gone :(

And what good does it bring to those who does not?

Imagine if Google forced people to install Chrome in order to watch Youtube videos.

Because that is exactly what WG is forcing. They force us to install a software we don't want / need in order to use their product, which hasn't required it in the past.

Why should people boot a program to boot another program? That is just nonsense.

EDIT: Not everyone will be using the Game Center. If it will be required in the future, I will not update the game at all.

Remember that we're already doing that with the old launcher. Booting a program in order to boot another program pretty much sums up "launcher". I never was a fan of launchers either, primarily because a lot of companies just used them for advertising their other products. However a lot of launchers also handle updates and have settings menu which means you can change things without having to restart the entire program (which still is a thing). It's also frequently possible to just rnu the game's executable if you really want to (not sure if WoT can do this, never tried).

It's also not a good comparison with Google and Youtube. Launchers aren't browsers. Browsers are designed to give you access to the world wide web or any known server address. Launchers are designed to help you run one specific product and are a part of that product. Launchers can't launch any games they're not designed to launch.

Edit: Why the "time to celebrate" tag on the OP, OP? What's it to you if people use or don't use the game center? :S

I have a desktop shortcut, which immediately boots the client - completely skipping the launcher.

Alright, nice to know that works, thanks. And this couldn't be done with the gamecenter?

Better examples of equivalents would be Origin and Steam which have to be running in order to launch a game, which I assume is the ultimate objective for WG (launching via the .exe does not work for games using those services, unless the service is already running).

I'll make the most of running WoT via .exe while I still can. :)

Launcher is useful if you have more games and more than 1 account. It's not heavy and doesn't use much memory...I don't see the problem here.

Games from GoG.com doesn't require a software to be able to be played. They are ready to be played after an installation, which any decent game requires.

Steam isn't just a library of games (which, btw, can be booted outside Steam). Steam is a game store, a forum, a file sharing and a chat platform.

Your straw men are quite pathetic tbh. Randomly listing software and concepts without knowing what they do is quite.. special. But then again, what can you expect out of a "Fin".

same, I only use the game center when there is an update, and kill the process after update.

The GIF would be suitable and actually funny, if I made a whole topic about it. But why would I, since everyone with an IQ higher than their shoe size ought to see the issues WoT has.

Besides, a fun fact remains: People who keep on playing WoT in its current state aren't wasting my time.
