In order to realise my goal of an Excalibur before Christmas, I need to play some German tanks. I've been slooowly going up the Borsig/Grille line and the light line is clear. But what are the good tanks amongst the assorted mediums and heavies?

E50. That's pretty much it.

VK 30.01 P and VK 30.02 M are very good at tier 6.

Panther is okay at tier 7 and the E50 is awesome at tier 9.

VK 100.01 P is a beast at tier 8 and the E75 is okay at tier 9.

Maus is...well THE Maus! :)

E50 is a nice tank, but overrated.

All you need is E50, still my favorite tank in the game with little contest. Also the only tank which I've put improved equipment on.

It's good at practically everything except hiding, it has crap camo for a medium.

And add to that it's hilarious to play. Funniest recent memory I have of it is ramming an STB-1 for nearly 1k damage. :D

M46 Patton actually has good mobility, better reload time and extra degrees of gun depression. Change my mind :)

Edit: I played the leo pta until its gun depression got buffed from -6 to -8. Even without that buff that tank was/is amazing to play. A true gem.

Which is why you run 105-octane. Changes the tank completely.

Either way, it is personal preference. One tank will fit your playstyle better than the other. If you are more comfortable with ridgeline-warriors, Patton is for you. If you are more comfortable with a jack of all trades, E50 is for you.

Both tanks are just as good, but I perform better in the E50, and prefer it either way. Also, M46's accuracy can be incredibly annoying. I've ragesold it twice just because of that. :sceptic:

E50 has far more accurate gun and because of its armour is better pub stomper and more versatile to play.

Though I like most t9 meds. A bit less now cause they nerfed t9 mm.

The middle tiers across most of the lines are useable. Tiger has good dpm, rhm has its moments, jagpanther line is pretty solid from tier 6 upwards.

Stinkers are tiger II, panther II. Indien wasnt great before buff not sure now.

Germans have some very strong prem tanks. E25, vk4503, lowe, skorp and hawk 30 all have their uses and are very capable tanks.

The t10s apart from Maus are weak.

Tiger 1 is a peach

Anything with the 88-L71 should perform

Armour very dodgy in most cases

The VK30.02D seems interesting, not played it much tho, nice mobility and can be bouncy

Since I heard so much bad about German tanks I expected to have a "meh" experience at best while grinding them, but to my surprise I found quite a few keepers.

The Pz IV H, VK 30.01 (D) and  VK 30.02 (D) are most likely the three tanks I had the most fun in, enjoyed the Pz.Kpfw. III/IV quite a bit as well but I tend to prefer tier 6-8 so at the moment it's crewless in my garage awaiting either a new crew or to be sold. I found the VK 30.02 (M) decent but compared to the VK 30.01 (D) it felt like a downgrade and that feeling only grew stronger when I got the Panther and compared that to the VK 30.02 (D), the VK 30.01 (P) I found decent enough but that was before it got buffed. Got the Panther II and the Indien Panzer in the garage, but neither are very tempting to grind and to be honest I'm not sure I wish to spend that amount of time and pain to get past them.

I enjoyed the Tiger (P), unlocked the Ferdinand, VK 45.02 (P) Ausf. A, VK 100.01 (P) and the Tiger I from it, sure it's no T29 but I found it rather nice, the Tiger I on the other hand I found more situational, the Tiger I either granted me a great game or a crap one, the Tiger (P) was way more consistently good. However the best tank of any German HT line is for sure the VK 100.01 (P) since there are so many missions that's very easy to complete in it due to it being downright broken vs lower tiers and at a significant advantage vs same tiers, heck even tier 10's can't just snap-shoot and pen you like most other tier 8's. The VK 45.02 (P) Ausf. A is workable but have been power creeped a lot, however not as much as the Tiger II have so if you want to get past them be ready to have a meh experience at best. I also recommend skipping the D.W.2 and the VK 30.01 (H) if you can and go via the MT's to the HT's instead since both are awful.

I also recommend that you pick up the Jagdpanzer IV from the other TD line since it's a blast to play due to it's high DPM and semi workable frontal armor. Then not to forget as Rati_Festa mentioned above, the Germans have quite a few very nice premium tanks, at the same time though they also have some of the worst.

people forget the E75!

that tank is still a very strong one for its tier. It has a very good turning radius, respectable gun and noice armour. I had an absolute blast with the thing.

The two med lines play differently, in a way.

The E50M is the line most consistent with sniping, these being the tier VI(with the VK30.02M) upwards. They have a bit better armour, but its not really to be relied upon, except till the tier IX, where you can sidescrape against a lot of stuff in a pinch.

the leo line starts as brawlers, but excel at mid line fighting, until the tier IX where they are much better suited as sniper tanks.

in the end you have the leo 1, recently buffed and an excelent sniper, with also good pen and gun stats. Absolutely no armour, but you'll get some random trollbounces on the turret.

The E50M is also a very good sniper, though not as accurate as the leo(somewhat marginal, its 105 has 390/270 rather than the leos 420/278) but still insanely good. the armour is the same as the tier IX, not that goodm but enough in some ocasions. it also has rear transmission too. just noticed I did a review, not on topic, soz lol.

like the others mentioned, the E50 is a very solid tier IX. It may lack a little bit in pen, but you can go through most stuff with it. APCR is useful for those difficult to pen stuff and wheeles if you have had enough of their nonsense

I wasn't really looking forward to the German tanks after 4 years (being English and all) but it sounds like there are a couple of good ones in there.  I could do with a BIA Tiger sale in the next month.

I have two TD crews (I kept one on the AA gun one when I bought the Nashorn) so I will have a go on  JPIV. I really liked the Löwe as a rental but I can't really qualify spending 40+ Euros on tanks at the moment. I could stretch to 17 for the Blackdog (I've got a voucher) but I think the money would e better spent on premium time.

Thanks for the input, guys.

Vk a is kinda ok, vk b atleast used to be good and panzer 7 isnt worth anything

vk p was decent, i'd rather hammer a rusty nail trough my nuts than play mäuschen with stock motor again and maus itself is good for the bounce missions

tiger 2 is ok, but löwe is better,  e75 is one of the better tier 9 heavy tanks and e100 can be fun sometimes ( those times being when the gun decides to hit)

panther 2 is mediocer, e50 and e50m are good for ramming memes. If you're a bob you should go for e50's since it can bounce stuff

german lights used to be ok, but now they are shite

havent played the other mediums in leo line apart from tier 10 and 9. Havent played pta since it was buffed but i guess its ok. Leo 1 on the other hand is the best german medium atm IF you know what you are doing.

I guess it kinda depends what you would like out of a tank, I liked jageroo td line up to jagdpanther, someday soonish going to carry on to t8. Lights were good, collecting monies for RU now. Maus line is insanely tough nuts, although t7 Tiger P might be tricky. Liked Tiger 2 though it is undeniably weak as front line HT.

E 50, reallistically.

E 100 has become quite obsolete, Maus is good to some extent.

people are praising the E 75 for some reason, when the WZ-111 1-4 exists.

For me the highlight of the German Medium and Havy lines came sometime probably around 2012/3 when it dawned on me ... RASHA!!!  Pretty soon after that I was at the old tier 9 IS4 and got my first Kolabanovs medal in what back them was a tier 9.75 tank pretending to be a tier 9 while getting to fight tier 6's etc - needless to say it was a fair bit more OP back then than an IS4 can hope to be today ;-)
