Recently my game started freezing mid battle so often WG gave me a generic auto generated warning for leaving battles early. So I made sure my graphics card drivers were up to date and 'out' went every mod I was using. Now I'm vanilla and it seems to have fixed the problem (although game still froze on 1 occasion with no mods and updated drivers, maybe my graphics card is on its way out!?). Anyway, playing vanilla made me realise that theres some really simple stuff WG still don't have in the core game, like:

- Different coloured icons for the different tank types. Why the hell do lights, meds and heavies all get clumped in as the same grey colour. At least make it an option to have the different tank types as different colour icons.

- Just auto place the last crew you played in a tank back into it without having to click a button. Sharing a crew between a premium and tech tree tank should not require button clicks.

Come on WG at least pick off the low hanging fruit.

Is this some pride parade flex I'm too straight to get?

Probably.. given the inside of your average tank is gayer than a tree full of monkeys on nitrous oxide. But that aside, why do lights, meds and heavies have the same colour icons, TDs = blue, arty = rust colour, everything else = grey. Instantly seeing the tank type composition at the start of the battle used to give me an idea of where I was going to go on the map.

There are icons.

There could be colours instead of icons.

Having both is not that needed, you've got 30 seconds to know what to do in that match with the information you've got.

I wonder what the OP would miss if he were to design a game?  Of course, the Veil of ignorance does not apply to the OP as it does not apply to many people.

Or they could colour in the other 3 types like they did for arty and TDs.

Yeah you're right however would they have identified or done this stuff in a mere 9 years of updates.

Last time I tried imbedding a picture it wouldn't let me, but I'll try again later.

I assume you're using modded tank contour icons because the vanilla must be the same for everyone.

Yep, Wintermute_1 is correct. In vanilla WoT, arty is brown, TDs are blue, frankenstein was ugly too  and the rest of the classes are light gray.

Hmmm still can't upload images, prob my bs free image hosting site. Can just type 'Wot battle' into google though, click images and you'll find one in seconds that show the vanilla tank contour icons.

I play full vanilla except a skin for the EBR 105, and I honestly have no idea what you're on about.

As a counter-point, I hated that functionality in XVM and always disabled it when setting up the configuration file. It's fine if you've only got one crew that you want to swap between tanks but if you're training multiple crews it's a pain in the arse to switch tanks and have the previous crew pop back when you're trying to put a different one in. The current in-game functionality works better for me.

Personally the only thing I really miss now is the 50m proxy-spot circle. An in-game armour and modules viewer would be good too, though that's been coming soon™ for years so I'm not holding my breath.

I find the "Spotted" list that comes with XVM useful. Makes it easier to identify who's left and not yet spotted with a quick look at the scoreboard.

And this:

He's right, y'know.

The only mod I'm using that affects the player panels is the spotted indicator seen on the right-hand side. The shading of the tank icons is vanilla.

Got it, just noticed it after that printscreen.

As you can imagine, the color of those would make zero difference to me.

I thought it was the colors on top, where everyone shows green, those other ones...too similar to even matter.

Only a few basic rules need to be known

Your team mates

Will not support you for an instant

Will grass you up in a heartbeat

Will sit idly by and watch you die rather than risk themselves

Once you get the basics then everything else falls into place

Have fun
