I got as far as MT-12 in the StugIV mission. Have played over 100 games. I set someone on fire once but never got close to the with honours criteria. Fels like this is plain rigged.

Please remind us of the honors requirement.

As for possible? Yes. I've got all the StuG IV missions with Honors. I'm sure that many have.

Fires are just fairly rare.

Focus your shots on engines and, if you know where they are,  fuel tanks.

Engines have a % chance to catch fire.

Fuel tanks however will always catch fire once brought to 0 module hp

It depends on what tank you use and what you shoot at. Even with the perfect setup, some was stuck at it for months, others got it in a few games. It's more luck than skill. But some things can still help.

Take a high ROF tank. As that's better than a high alpha tank with low ROF. As ROF can be better then high module alpha "not the same as damage alpha". Like the Cromwell. Reset gunner skills to get Deadeye. As that will increase the chance of doing damage to a module by 3%. As engine and fuel tanks are at 45%, and those 3% can help.

Find a KV-1, KV-3, T29 etc. And spam rounds at their rear center plate, or rear side wheel. As your ROF is fast enough that it will reset the self fixing on the modules. The more rounds you get in there, the more chance you have to push it over the red. One shot here and there won't always help as it might self repair. You need to keep the shots coming to have a better chance at it.

And regret that WG reduced autocannon fire chance.

Leopard into the rear of almost any tank pretty much guaranteed a fire back in the day.

play a tier 10 if you have; a ton of ppl. will have food so you'll arson someone pretty soon(if the mission requires arsonist - don't remember).

and no, the mission isn't "rigged" or anything. It's just a dumb luck based mission. But in 50-100 games you should make it anyway. And get used to it as in each stage I think you have some fire bs mission for meds.

anyway, way less chance based then many other missions

They usually are hard missions as most people will have 100s of automatic fire extinguishers. Low tiers are better to achieve this on imo.

Why do I have a feeling that OP has completed the primary part of the mission but thinks he has to complete it with honors to progress to the next mission. OP does state that he set someone on fire which means the mission is completed.

OP if this is the case, just choose another mission to complete. It's enough for you to complete the primary objectives of the missions to progress through them. You only need to complete the 15th missions with honors to receive orders which you can use to skip missions in future. Otherwise completing missions with honors will grant you just a badge and camo.

No wonder, the game wants to keep on the mission by default until its done with honors. And I think it gives even some unnecessary warning when you try to change it "prematurately".

Surprised myself a few times with this feature, when forgot to change...

1. Use tier VI USSR medium tank A-43 with fast firing gun.

2. Have perk Deadeye on gunner.

3. Shoot KV-1, KS-3, T-150, T29 heavies in the rear. The USSR heavies even the side rear.

MT12 set an enemy on fire and finish in the top 5 based on xp

As others said fast firing gun gives a better chance and deadeye improves it a little.

I probably did it in my Cromwell or Comet

T-34-85 with the derp. Actually any applicable tier med that has a derp gun option. Chuck some HE pies and pretty quickly some poor sap is going to go on fire... fun too actually.

Don't force RNG based missions. Forget that it is active and just play your game.

RNGesus gets bored, eventually he gets sloppy and make a mistake and let you to complete the mission.

I've just started this mission also. Of course Sod's law meant I had barbequed a tank on the game that completed the previous mission so God knows how long it will take now to set fire to another. I thnk the poster above has the best approach to forget the mission is running and play as normal

A few things-

1. As has been said: The Primary objective AND the Secondary objective MUST be completed in the SAME battle, but ONLY the Primary objective is required to complete the mission and move on.

2. There are lots of opportunities to set Soviet vehicles on fire with shots to the engine as has also been mentioned.

3. OP may struggle to be in the top 5 on XP, so I would consider moving on. To do both things in the same battle will probably be difficult for this player.
