Hullo! If you have already noticed the tags, I recently acquired the chi-ri for the excuse to grind the line for the STB-1, since I wanted to get it at some point anyway.

My first impressions? the thing is quite big. I'm being serious here, its centurion-big, sometimes even more than that. A little big sluggish, and the armour is absolutely garbage, and I'm sure one of these days I'm going to get penned by those 152s on the russians at some point. Already got very lucky by a KV-2 that only did 447 damage and knocked out my commander and gunner. Do not attempt to sidescrape against 105mm+ guns!

Now, on to my favourite stuff. This is one of the few tanks that can use a rammer with an autoloader, and it has a very nice gun to top it up with. true, it doesn't have much pen(which is why you exclusively ignore heavies whenever you can) but the clip alpha combined with the intraclip load can lead to funny situations. this thing excels in its mediocrity, and everyone mostly ignores it until it plants a 400 alpha clip, which not many people expect. to also compensate for using a 75, it also has -10gundep and nice stats to top it off.

This could be the "new tank syndrome" and it should also be noted that I had some free XP stocked up for these reasons, but it is nowhere near as bad as I thought it would be. Will continue to do more battles in it tho, 5 is a very small sample lol.

Ps: props to a guy in my discord calling this the ki-wi

At first I hated it and rage sold it.. Then I bought it back, unlocked the top modules and indeed not so bad. Then sold it again and bought the STA-1.. Boy, that tank is even worse.

Now at the Type 61 which is actually performing quite well. Tempted to buy back the Chi-Ri to set some more people on fire with the 3-shots autoloader..

Don't worry, it's just the RNG. The more you'll play it, the more bad it will become. :great:

Oh it's def a tank you don't want to be in front of anything with a 105 caliber or bigger. Be that via HE or AP.

But on the 2nd line or behind the main med push like the Skoda 25t, it can be nasty with that clip. And it's also great for farming track assist in +2 games. It's HP pool is also fairly big, so I don't mind some bad trades late game if I can. Even more so if I reload a 2nd clip before they reload their big guns. It's not a great tank, but it's not bad either IMO.

But either way it's IMO more fun than the average tank that follows it. The STA-1 is not amazing but gets the job done. Type 61 is the one that is rather good in a support role with that gun, and it has rather good stock DPM. So worth the grind IMO.

Could it be that rarest of beasts - a balanced tank?

Thinking back I enjoyed this tank - never a carrier; but I couldn't carry anyway. Really good in support though and having someone back you up in one defo would help.

This does intrigue me but I'd FXP to it and I might be better off playing my decent crewed T71 DA and AMX 13 57...

It was one of those tanks that performs well with a little thought and awareness,  but pretty terribly without it.

Its a "flat track bully".

Against low tier opposition that fast load and dumping damage are hilariously good.

Against tier VIII and tier IX, the lack of speed, lack of armour, and low camo value mean that it can get punished. Badly.

Add to that the low penetration on the top gun and its ability to deal with many tier IX's and quite a few tier VIII's now in the game is diminished.

I averaged 934 damage per game in it, using no free exp and grinding out all the modules prior to selling it and moving the crew up to the tier VIII.

Personally, the only reason I can't find my self grinding the STB is how bad I find the whole line. I want to get to the STB at some point, but I can't press battle with the Chi-nu. Really bad line with paper armor tanks and bad guns, up to tier VIII, where you at least get a decent gun, but it doesn't share any modules with the previous tanks.

I think it have the best gun of any T7 medium tank in the game.
If that gun was put on a stronger platform (T20, T71CMDC etc) you would have a borderline OP tank.

Yes, I do have 3 marks on it.

Well actually, you can sidescrape against 105mm guns¹, but the Russian 107mm guns triple overmatch.

¹Do remember that double overmatch is also a thing, meaning the angle has to be quite steep.

Also, for memes, try the non-autoloading 75mm gun for crazy DPM (2.6k).
