I thought about this, because for me it is annoying when I get spotted while passing through bushes,, because there is some tiny gap between them, trough which I can be seen for a few milliseconds.

The suggestion is that you can only spot a tank after 1 second of it being continuously spotable by you.

I know that the game makes visibility checks every few milliseconds so I'm not sure how this can be implemented. I'm guessing if you spot a tank, the game can check after 1 second if it is still spotted and if yes -> reveal the tank for real.

What do you think of this idea?

For the sake of realism this can only work for tanks that are further than lets say 100m. Anything under 100m is still spotted instantly like it is now. Also tanks which fire are still instantly spotted etc.

OP doesn't find it funny how they get alpha smashed the instant they put one foot wrong?

Yeah... the spotting system used to be slow and so like that... What we have now is a VAST improvement.

What you suggest would allow people to fire and be pulling behind cover before they are spotted.  That's just bad.

Why would you want to mess with the spotting refresh intervals when the problem is bush modelling?

Bush modelling, rock modelling, soap rocks, tiny leafless trees that can hide a type 5, etc. all of that is the shoddy work of the map design department. The base mechanics are fine.

Ah... Just imagine... Old spotting mechanics with detection delay, and then you add in the new wheelies... Imagine the tears

Now that would be something else.

Remember the side by side they did with the tank crossing a street? He'd cross, shoot and be spotted already way on the other side. The salt, ahhhh...think of all that salt.

I think that can be avoided by revealing tanks which shoot instantly.

What rubs me the wrong way with the current mechanics is the situation I described with the bushes in the OP and also another example: when a tank spots another tank like 400 m away by being able to see 3 pixels of its cupola instantly. It seems so unrealistic...(Yes I know wot is not exactly a simulator ...... but its just feels wrong)

You still have a second within which to roll your 50+ ton tank around the corner and snap off a shot at an enemy before they can see you in that case,  instead of being spotted when you expose yourself.

You just need to be more aware of your surroundings.

Learn the spots where you can get spotted like that and act accordingly.

If you know where the gaps are, you can even use that to work out where you're being spotted from.

WG did say years ago they were planning on making tanks harder to spot if less of the tank was visible and vice versa.

Guess that's one of the many things they silently dropped.
