The Chi-RI is the tier VII Japanese medium tank and with the top of the tree this month I got it.

However this tank is not great, except for the OK gun (with low alpha for tier 7), it is inferiour to other tier 7 tanks.

The gun has not great penetration which forces you to be more agressive and inventive however as this tank has no armour you can't just take on any tank frontally.

Then you try to flank other tanks right?

Wrong, this medium has no great mobility either and so the only thing you can hope for is being able to support your allies without getting shot at on a medium to short range.

This makes this tank way too dependent on the team's performance and the player can virtually make no impact on the game or change the battle outcome with this tank.

Am I playing this tank wrong or is it really this tank?

Thanks in advance to everyone,

You are playing it wrong. You can do a lot of damage if you play it right, and in those games where you struggle to pen, triple track can do wonders. Stay close to friendlies, save your hp, pop out when it is safe to do so and put the hurt on them.

Chi-Ri can deal as much damage in 2 seconds as an IS-3 can in one shot.

Pick targets you can actually penetrate and avoid unnecessary exposure to enemy fire.

I enjoyed the tank, mostly because of the gun, though this was years ago...

Their payment comes from the CIS region, relax naab.

Both Chi-Ri and Chi-To were quite decent some years ago, although the former asks for alot of gold spam.

They have "pathced" it a long time ago: it is called free xp and it is very much incorporated in their business model.

Was considered just an OK tank years ago.  Powercreep has now made it a complete turd.  Gun is OK though pen is meh.  Arty will focus you if you are above average WR because you are slow and have no armour

I actually like Chi-Ri.

I sold it a long time ago, but now I have it in my garage once again.

You just need to be careful. Try to ambush enemies which don't expect such move from you.

Or put another way:

IS3 can blast you for 390 with 175 pen instantly

Chi Ri can pewpew you with 155 pen but has to stay exposed for over 2 seconds

Years ago it may have been fun.  Today it is horrific

Considering IS-3's aiming time, I'd say it will stay exposed longer than Chi-Ri. But why would you compare apples to oranges? Compare Chi-Ri to Leo or any other tier 7 MT with ~300 alpha, then consider their gun handling and aiming time. You'll notice that Chi-Ri will be exposed for less time than most mediums thanks to amazing aiming time and decent gun handling for a tier 7 medium. It has all the advantages of high alpha guns but it handles better than most ~75 mm cannons on this tier.

Chi-Ri's gun is its best feature and dunno why would anybody complain about it. Chi-Ri fails with armour and size - mostly size because I can live mediocre mobility. Avoiding returning fire (which mediums should do) and arty is a real challenge for this tank. Side profile of a barn with 35 mm of armour - wet dream of every arty player and HE-spamming 45% WR noob.

Better not allow WG to do anything to chi-ri, they'll mess it up anyway. It's funny If hard tank to play, ffs I've been at 43 WR since -17.

Just finished grinding it.

There is really only two good things about this tank: the DPM and the autoloader basically gives it 390 alpha.

Everything else about the tank is either mediocre to terrible.

STA-1 is a delight though, loving the tank.

The thing is, the platform is just about good enough to make that gun work. You just need to forget everything you think you know about medium tank play. It is more like an ambush td than anything else.

Yes, I love the Chi-Ri. :-) I guess it is one of those tanks you either love or hate, but I also consider it a rare example of a balanced tank with 'extreme' values. This gun on an any other platform would lead to a highly OP tank, IMHO.

Absolutely horrendous tash heap of a tank, slow, zero armor, massive no camo and a garbage gun, main reason I stopped playing that line.

Chi-Ri is a nice tank. I'm about to finish it and I will sell it once I'm done with it but I really enjoyed the run. Extremely fast unload and reload makes it pretty fun to play.
