Hello,

I am just grinding STB tech tree due to ToT event and I am currently at Tier IX. I just want to ask, if I miss something, and it is not a sarcasm or crying topic. What is so unique with this tank? I see myself an over-average player and most of time can quickly adapt to a tank to play better and can realize which good sides a tank has. But this tank... It has a good gun depression but not a strong turret? In any tier IX matches you are penned quite easily. I don't even speak about that huge cupola. Your turret itself is really weak. It doesn't also have a decent mobility. It is just okkish. Gun is also not too accurate. Top speed is also limited. So apart from the ToT event why would somene drive this pathetic tank? I just added all tier IX mediums tanks in game client for comparison. Type 61 excels in nothing. Even more mobile AMX 30 has better turret armor with a super decent mobility. I have already grinded AMX line and I have done great jobs with its Tier IXs tank.

What are your thoughts?

Warm Regards.

Does everything need to be special? Not everyone comes from a great home where you got to feel special. :(

Jokes aside, I mean that it seems to be competitive enough to not be a burden on the road towards the STB-1. I reckon it's allright that everything isn't 'special' for the same of it. Just look at the Type 5. It really got a special place in my mind, if you get my drift.

Peace and special love.

A japanese Patton with less armored but smaller turret? Compare it to the Patton and maybe you'll find it less pathetic. You may even find it an okay tank that doesn't want to be hit even more than the M46.

Thanks for the list!

That tiny dps advantage over Leopard means nothing to me. Even AMX has better DPS with better turret armor and accuracy and much more mobility. No one is just standing in front of you so getting a bit more dps and losing all other stats in other areas is junky. Centurion has much lower dps but at least it can stand against while fighting thanks to his turret which Type-61 doesn't have it. And I am pretty sure no one is grinding Type-61 just to shoot while moving and traversing the tank.

Well, back when I played it 258mm pen, good gun depression, nice mobility and sexy looks.

Nowadays in World of Premium ammo and overall buffed penetration that pen is nothing special anymore unfortunately. But with the recent buffs it should still be good.

It's Japanese. That alone makes it more reliable than any other comparable tanks.

It's not great at anything, it's not bad at anything. It snipes consistently, has fair mobility, decent DPM and nice gun depression. It trades in nothing to gain nothing. A brilliant all-rounder. Joint-highest reverse speed of 23km/h is a nice perk to have.

One other thing you might've missed - it has the best dispersion while moving. Taking snapshots by letting go of the W key for a fraction of a second is a very viable option, even at longer distances.

If people pen your turret...don't expose it any longer than you need to, just take the shot and pull back, peek when safe.

DPM.

3700+ with the small gun, 3400+ with the large gun. With BIA, vent, food and directives you have 3.8s reload time with the small gun and 6.35s reload time with the large one. I played with both guns, I like the small one better to be honest simply because you can outdamage pretty much any tank you face, and keep the enemy permatracked while you circle them in 1-v-1 encounters.

This is all countered by horrible armor, being an arty favorite, ammo rack being damaged really often and crew members seemingly hanging from the outside of the tank. But once you are presented with targets, it's a damagefest.

DPM advantage over Leopard is not tiny - it's ~300, almost an extra shot. And Leo's gun is potato when it comes to gun handling. AMX on the other hand - it's fast, but gun handling is mediocre. Type 61 has also better penetration (and it's AP vs APCR + 30 mm more HEAT pen). Also, both of those have 8 degrees of gun depression rather than 10 - and 8 degrees is "okay" while 10 is "good".

Centurion has insufficient firepower for its tier - 2.2k DPM on tier 9 med is simply bad and gun handling is trash. Does its armour compensate for it? Probably... when you are top tier. Its armour is as useless as Type 61's against tier 10 spamming gold.

Leo and AMX are better because of speed alone. But latest buffs turned Type 61 from rather bad to decent. There is no reason to complain about it.

btw. so you have problem with Type 61's cupola but AMX 30, which has similar cupola and has to expose it even more because of worse gun depression, is fine? :sceptic:

Actually today I played a bit some matches again with this tank. I achieved 9 wins streak. It maybe longer but I was tired so did quit the game. But yeah I got amazing snapshots with it and I want to leave one of them in the replay:

Just at the beginning of the match you will see it. So you don't have to watch all of it.

It was a good match though if you want to watch all :) Not too long.

Not great, not bad when fully upgraded, Stock grind was painful but i've got some really intresting matches in it
My 2 cents: in the first 5-6 minutes play it like you would play a TD, or if you're more daring, an active scout but try to take cover and avoid being shot at
As soon as enemy HP start fall (assuming u're in a good team) you can even charge in and "brawl" a bit but still using cover. Flank and circle.
Hills are your friend aswell as obstacle.
If you're not sure to kill the enemy in 1-2 shots, give it a shot but take cover asap
The dude is fast and the top gun can punch some nice hits

I love Type 61. It is my favorite tier 9 tank with T-55A. It has great gun depression, penetration values (high pen AP with good shell velocity), gun handling and good DPM combined with higher RoF than other 105 guns means you can hold tanks tracked much easier.

In my opinion Type 61 was better in it's previous state, because of the 390 alpha.

The previous state has one big flaw and that was ammo capacity. 32 rounds was really low.

It's not.

I like the current version much much more.

The previous version was really bad due it's garbage gun handling.

Now the gun handling is decent, it's not great but much better than before.

Also, I really love the DPM, 360 alpha damage and reaload time under 6 seconds.

I played it years ago, looking at it now it looks a lot better, it used to have mediocre gun handling, mediocre DPM to go with meh mobility and now armour.

Now the gun looks massively improved.

Plus the turret has some armour now, IIRC it used to be paper, it now looks more like a slightly worse 7/1 turret.
