I've had this thought for a while, every battle has a 30 second countdown clock to the start of the battle, I presume that this is for making battle plans, who should go where etc.  How often in random battles does this actually happen, more often it's used just to make noise or to tell us how XVM odds are poor or just  for insults but rarely for anything constructive.

Wouldn't it be better if you could use this time to select an appropriate " loadout" for that battle!

Example. I'm queued for battle in my T40 but I'm low tier in a tier 6 match and only have AP ammo in my loadout, the chances of penning that OI or T150 from the front are low so I really have no more than nuisance value to the team when battling the higher better armoured tiers unless I flank or get behind them. But if I could use the 30 second countdown to actually change my loadout based on what enemy tanks I'm up against I might decide to load some premium or indeed all premium ammo for that battle so I can contribute more to the battle and actually do some damage.

Likewise if I'm top tier in a tier 3/4 battle I may decide I don't need those premium shells this battle and just load regular AP.
I know lots will say just load a mix of ammo and you're covered or just load all premium but premium is expensive and I don't like wasting it.

Anyway just a thought  on how better to utilise that 30 second countdown.

Thanks for taking the time to read anyway!!  :O))

i honestly want the count down to be little longer.

it takes surprisingly long time to browse for a good song.

it usually takes about 45-60 seconds to: come up with a song that i want to listen, type it in, search it, select it and skip ad's when needed.

so those 30 seconds at the start of the battle are crucial. for me at least.

Those 30 seconds are there for people to actually load in the map. With all the toaster PCs its needed.

Then i want to change my gun aswell :P Rhm with derp in a packed tier 10 game, but 128mm in a tier 8 battle :P

Wrong, it's so potato PCs can load in before the battle starts.

To have 30s for loadout changes or whatever, you would need to wait, till every player in the team is loaded, which would increase waiting time for battles significantly.

As others stated, it is for slow computers, so that they can catch up with the loading.

That countdown doesn't start until half the players have loaded in. So the other half with slower PC's have a chance to get in. Tho your suggestion is not bad, I suspect it would work differently to give everyone time to select stuff, as some are still coming in at the last second. It's not the first time it's been suggested. And WG have shot it down before with the "then it would not be random" like they use for most stuff.

It's what homer said.

And this has been suggested many times before. It's still not worth it I think.

As others have stated, the loading time is for slow computers (or people with a lot of mods who haven't installed the game on an SSD since patch 1.0). Not everyone owns a good computer, when you hear the stories people occasionally tell on the forum about what settings to run the game at to get 20-30 FPS... a lot of people think that everyone has decent computers these days but that doesn't even hold true across the board in western Europe, let alone other parts that have different economic situations.

As for the idea itself, there are few tanks that can't be outfitted with a spread of regular and premium ammunition before the battle, with a few HE shells to boot. Most battles, you won't run out of ammunition of a single type anyway (except maybe premium if you only got a few for financial reasons). Backup prammo that you take into a battle isn't gone if you don't need to fire it in practice, if you did need to fire it in practice you would've taken them along in the loadout time according to your idea anyway. Just carry them, it's the simplest solution.

If anything, the count down needs to be 10 seconds max. It's just a collosal waste of time for most people as especially with all the optimisations, WoT runs fine even on Russian potato PC's nowadays.

When you are waiting for the timer to run down.

Take note of the team lists.

Notice that people load in at a different rate!

That time is needed for people with poor connections & potato computers to load in...

It's not so much about running fine as it is about loading fast enough... It's SSD or bust. Makes a difference between loading in before the countdown even begins and after the battle's already started.

I still have Mannerheim line blocked because it still takes over 90 seconds to load on my laptop.

And on other maps quite often I can be joining in with 10 seconds left.

Lower your texture resolution, they are the largest as well as the first battle usually taking longer to load (to load in all the assets).

Would that be an improvement if say the LT player in your team doesn't start to move his tank until 20 seconds of the battle has already passed, due to a slow computer?

The ammount of AFK whining would reach staggering heights.

That's close to what I experienced when I had a minimal XVM required to run the forumite mod. It's the sole reason I stopped using it and offered the guy a year of premium time to make the mod not XVM dependent.

Lower your texture resolution,

Is there a way to lower it lower than having everything on the lowest setting?

It's only my laptop, which I only play arty on because it barely hits 25fps max.

I guess it's possible to also lower the game resolution since I doubt you are playing on 800*600...

I need help...

Just worked out my total time waiting for the countdown timer...

According to my calculations its a shade over 13 days, surely it has to be wrong.

Let me try to calculate it for a better perspective.

In 39.272 battles, the countdown timer has taken up:

1.178.160‬ seconds

19.636 minutes

327 hours

13 and a half days

You were indeed correct. 13 days of your life down the drain.
