So: Both are Heavy tanks that use a large caliber HE howitzers. But what is better is your opinion?

I have both tanks in my garage. Here is how I see the pro's and con's

KV-2

PROS:

- The 152mm howitzer has 86mm pen with 910 average damage (that;s 11mm pen more than O-I

- It has better mobility than O-I

- 2-3sec faster reload than O-I

CONS:

- No armor! Every tier 6,7,8 will pen you and KV-2s and O-Is easy one-shot you.

- Worst gun handling compared to O-I

O-I

PROS:

- IT actually has good armor that works at tier 6 and some tier 7

- Better gun handling than KV-2

- Better gun depression than KV-2

CONS:

- Worst mobility than KV-2

- Huge as a house - arty magnet

- The 150mm howitzer has 75mm HE pen (-11 compared to KV-2) and 890 he alpha damage (-20 compared to KV-2)

I have both tanks and I use them with all out HE load out. KV-2 is better at relocating and for faster battles (it can keep up) while O-I is great for holding down a position.

I do however notice that the O-I makes a bit less damage compared to KV-2!? On average the KV-2 will do a 300 damage, while the O-I 250. Does the 11mm extra HE pen does that? Does the HE pen has anything to do with the blast damage?

What do you think about this? What is the better tank, and why?

I have both and like them equally, my KV2 crew is much better trained so that gives an edge to the KV2.

The O1 has better view range 370 compared to 330 it works pretty well with either gun and has roughly double the KV2s ammo

HE penetration doesn't affect the damage roll of a non-penetrating hit. Alpha does though, the KV-2 got 910 alpha while the O-I got 890. The bigger the alpha, the better the damage roll.

Looks like the KV-2 is more consistent because, as you described yourself, it's less dependent on armor and got better mobility. It's also a smaller target in general. The more careful you play, the better the results regardless of the tank.

The O-I leads to a very good tank in tier 7 too while the KV-2 leads nowhere. The O-Ni chan is probably the 2nd best tier 7 heavy and it's a pain to take out.

I am biased by the KV-2 da comrade :P

seriously tho, both tanks are almost in the same niche, but have different roles.

the KV-2 is more of what I like to call a heavy support tank. It does not do tell in the frontlines, as it has little armour and the HP is only on the average. It has to use that massive gun to deliver solid hits and eliminate sofly armoured targets.

the O-I  has indeed more armour, that can be an absolute pain to most tier VIs and VIIs, within reason, but that armour stops being relevant as soon as someone has around 200 base pen, which some tanks are already boasting at this tier. In fact, the exception to the rule is the ARL 44, that has insane pen for its tier and can go through you easily.

however, there is one distinct advantage, or somewhat of one, that the O-I has. that AP round is very dangerous. 121 pen does not sound impressive at all, but this is a massive round for its tier that if you pen, you are bound to do heaps of damage.

KV-2 is a meme tank, O-I is just a dirty seal-clubbing machine.

Imo, both are better with the 105/107mm.

Then I would prefer the T-150 over the KV-2 ;)

KV-2 is the king of tier 6 derp. 86 pen on HE means you will pen even some strong tanks. Get the side of an O-I, a bit of luck on damage roll, an you can oneshot it. You can pen even some tier 8 sides with that gun! Also O-I sacrifice mobility for a useless armour. Apart from the short 88 german guns, all the tier 6 HT have very few problem in penetrating it, with the soviet and french HTs having a clear edge being able to punch trough the UFP easily and overmatching side / penetrating miniturret sides, effectively negating any angling chance. O-I is one of the easiest tank to damage in my T-150 and tanks to the 107mm overmatching it's 35mm sides, tracking and damaging O-Is is really easy!

KV-2, on the other hand, has the mobility required to poke, unload on a reloading / hulldown / sidescraping enemy and get back to cover before he can react, fulfilling its support role really well!

O-1, at least when you aim you hit something. KV2 is pure luck, tank is so bad I refuse to take them out. one game in that I I am mad for a week.

In the current meta, by the time you get anywhere with the O-I all your team mates will be dead.

I quite liked O-I before the armor nerf.

I feel sad when I see a KV-2 with the 107.

But tbh I like the KV-2 more, even with the less reliable armor. But that power to weight difference kills the O-I on some maps.
