Hi

Im having problems with getting the sidescraping with is4 to work, from what i've understood optimal angling for this one is 40-45 degrees. However most of the times I try I just get blasted by just about everything that haves a shoot at the tank. Here is a couple of pics from a game where the shoots have penetrated. The last picture is how I belive the tank has the best angle for sidescraping shots from the direction teh cannon is pointing.

Im working on the personal missions, and getting to reliably block shoots just isnt quite working out for me, so any

And yes I am fully aware that the IS 4 might be the sadest T10 heavy in the game, but as I stopped playing some years ago and just started again this summer, most of my garage is quite utdated and suffers from it.

That is far from the optimal angle. That would be good against tier 8 tanks shooting AP at most. You need shallow angles to reliably bounce premium rounds from tier 10. And pay attention to the tank shoulders, as those can get penned easily while angling. So be cautious or try reverse sidescrape.

The armour work at its best from hulldown position, vertical covers with enought room to sidescrape and, wriggling, can even work well while pushing, so in the open.

If you need armour, IS-4 can give you plenty of it. It's everything else that is lackluster. :)

I think you were over angling a bit in Fjords. The best way to adjust that on various maps and positions is a training room with a friend.

Ok, less angle, hull down, wiggle turret and watch the shoulders. In theory so straight forward and simple, ingame not so much.

Thanks for the pointers, going to work on getting it right, and then eventualy when I get the right spot and bad enough opponents that will shoot at me long enough I'll get my mission done :teethhappy:

And nothing of that will matter as everyone will just spam gold at you or, if that fail, with 150+ mm HE.

The best way to figure out the ideal angle is to go to tanks.gg, find the IS-4, use the live armor model and then check when the armour is at it's most thickest.

Simply recreate that angle in game.

The angling in the picture is a good way to get set on fire in IS tanks ^^ (i know, i don't have IS tanks, but i set plenty on fire)

here are some pictures for you :)

Tanks.gg -> select tank you want to look at -> 3D model -> armor model to live = profit. (you can also choose the tank and its gun you want to angle against.)

Try to imagine a line from going from your back nearside corner (nearest the terrain / building you are using to poke out off) through your front offside corner and straight to the enemys gun, line this up first and then adjust in to make it a bit shallower, in your pics you adjusted out to show too much side.

currently is4 can pull off surprising games, unfortunately not always seen the big problems of this tank and the buff absolutely necessary for many of its features

Used the tips and blocking improved alot. Now it mostly comes down to be beaten on experience.

I am guessing you're doing a mission for the T28 HTC or the Excalibur. It's easier to do these missions in lower tiers than tier 10. You don't have to against stronger opponents and the famous gold spam in your IS-4 if the requirements allow that.

Doing those campaigns yes, trying to do most on lowest tier possible but there are two missions that lined up nicely to use the is4 and get them both done at the same time, just need to block 2x hp one more time and its done
