Am I just stupid (yes)?

I'm playing the light missions in Play Your Class Right. Took me a couple of games to realise that in Light Tanks #2 and Light Tanks #3 you need to spot 2 and 3 tanks respectively to get the mission - despite the text stating "Spot an enemy vehicle. Remain undetected at the moment of spotting" - the key word being "an" which in my language is singular. But I do put my hand up to not thinking this one through.

But I just played a game where I spotted about 8 or 9 enemies whilst being unspotted at the MOMENT of spotting them but didn't get the mission. WTF is that all about?

Well it seems that if you go to the website it tells you that you must be unspotted BEFORE you spot and then remain unspotted whilst spotting.

WHY CAN YOU NOT PUT THIS IN THE MISSION TEXT IN GAME????? I don't want to have to check the website after playing 5 or 6 games to find that WG are too lazy to explain the missions properly in the game you're playing the missions in.

Rant over

(ranting because I'm only able to play a few games today so wasted valuable game time on these missions :))

They clearly made an oopsie when writing the descriptions of the missions for light tanks: notice all 3 missions for LT say "spot AN enemy", when the website says you need to spot 1,2 and 3 enemies for each mission accordingly (before being spotted in the match), It's not just lack of clarity, it's sloppiness.

That and the HT mission criteria being damage blocked is just WG's poor work and lack of contact with its player base.

It's the same with the personal missions.
Same text,  same problem

The "Remain undetected" should give you a hint what to do.....

In order to remain undected one has to be undetected. Seems pretty clear.

On top of that this isn't the first mission with that requirement, so you probably should have known how this mission works.

'Remain undetected at the moment of spotting' - its sloppy wording. At the moment of spotting I did remain undetected - but I was spotted BEFORE spotting. You can look at it both ways but to me it meant that when I spotted enemies I was not to be spotted myself at that moment. There is no excuse really - how many people do they employ? And yet they can't pay someone to check their English or ensure clarity.

(btw I really shouldn't start a sentence with a conjunction but it seems to be common usage now)

After 35k battles I guess this is not the first mission you do. And though they could have pointed it out somewhat clearer, you must know by now how it works.

You would think so? But in this case I read the mission statement ingame and it seemed pretty clear.

But you know what? I pay to play this game, I don't expect to have to go hunting for stuff which should be clear in the first place. As has been said - its just sheer sloppiness and to some extent, contempt for the players.

Nobody pays to play this game.  Some people play to receive bonuses while playing this game.  It's important to word things properly to avoid confusion :coin:

Once again, the nuances and complexities of the English language foil some folk.

It's a wonder some haven't gotten into trouble for simply using English that others cannot understand.

Translation from Russian is, honestly, rather hard - or at least is when someone who isn't proficient in both languages and/or the game does the job.

From what I've heard, and seen, WoT translations are not 100% professional, to put it nicely. I mean, they're not bad at all, but at times noticeably inconsistent. Case in point would be that this very forum (and the 'General' chat) is moderated by 'volunteers' who, seemingly, get a fluffy account with all/most premiums as their pay. I won't discuss how that is an interesting approach to, basically, 'employees' of the company, but it's worth taking into account that they might not actually pay people to translate.

(Personally, I wouldn't mind such a 'fluff' account, but apparently there are some requirements to be a mod that I don't fit. One of which is being a major [edited] (open to interpretation).)

"Remain undetected"... WG and their 9000 IQ mission descriptions...

The difference between "undetected" and "unspotted" is as follows: When you are spotted for the first time in battle, you have been detected. This means you can no longer be undetected again, just unspotted.

It is about time they stop using google translate and hire someone who does speak both languages. Should not be that hatd for a multi million company to hire a competent translator.

Honestly the fact that Wargaming uses "spot" in two different meanings depending on whether you are "spotting a tank so it's visible" or "spotting a tank for the first time" the lack of clarity can hardly be attributed to people's ignorance of the language. While it certainly isn't difficult to figure out what the problem might've been in this scenario it's a stretch for anyone to claim the mission text is unambiguous.

it's almost as if a billion dollar company can't afford a translating editor.
