Nice change.
Finally I can get rid of those "nice stats" messages I get in games.

Who cares about stats anyway.

The stats mean life to me. After MLP, of course.

It's supposed to help:

  • Reduce stats induced toxicity in battle.
  • Remove focus fire based on stats or clan tags.
  • Prevent stream sniping.

So this may be why they come up with such a system. It's not just XVM stats. I guess WoT is struggles with its multiplayer nature.

If you'd ask me when UT came out that some years into the future you wouldn't be able to taunt, chat and see the nicknames of your opponents I would have said only in single player.

How the hell does having names in battle make it seem like you are playing against humans, it all in your head.

Hell if you were playing against bots that had names and nobody told you, would you think past the first few battles that they are humans???

I do not know why they don't just remove names from battle altogether, just have tanks names.

I make my decisions on tank composition and placement in first few mins, and do not need any tool to tell me roughly how somebody will or wont play.

Humans...just try using the chat for any kind of conversation in a match, and see how often those humans of yours respond...

XVM is not the problem. An unbalanced match maker does far more damage to the game.

So when good players hide their names, we 47% winrate players are safe again because Arty will aim those with hidden names.. hehuehuehuhehu

Block Quote

The anonymizer is a tool that conceals a player's real username in battle. This feature was announced at last year's WG Fest, and is important to our players. The main task of the anonymizer is to maintain a certain privacy in game, and the tool we’re currently working on can solve this issue.

We had several ideas of how the anonymizer should work in World of Tanks, but the most fitting concept for players would be that the player should be anonymous only during battles.

How does it work? You select an option in the game settings and activate the anonymizer. The game generates a random username in each battle. It's not a random string of symbols, but a word that more or less makes sense, so other players won't even notice that you have the anonymizer turned on. They will only realize it after the battle when they want to see your battle statistics.

The anonymizer will let many players feel more comfortable in battle. There will be less “social pressure”, and you’ll be able to play your favorite game in peace.

I enlarged the dissapointing part... it should be the other way around so that its per default activated and player have to click to disable the anonymizer!

He will not like it:

They did say these exact reasons in yesterday's stream. From their point of view, it's a quality of life improvement and to be honest this was a request made by a lot of people over the years.

At least something is being done, I suppose we'll have to see how many embrace the feature to see how effective it is as I presume people could just go after the accounts showing no stats in XVM, but there could be multiple ones in a team if lots of players are using the feature.

Though that is assuming a high level of intelligence on the average XVM focuser, which if they spend all game just trying to hit the tier 8 light in the tier 10 game, in their tier 10 arty, that is a big assumption. We'll probably just see the average XVM focusing arty bob go for the highest WN8 player left in the game rather than them trying to second guess the system going after the low accounts.

Should hopefully reduce a lot of toxicity all round, xvm focus, stats bashing, general 'team is crap', 'game is already lost' etc. at the start of the game, stuff like that.

So a move in the right direction, taken them long enough though, this seemed like a fairly simple fix when they announced this last year but has taken them like 9-10 months to implement.

Thanks for the information. I imagine they will write a news article on it, but this comes from devs.

It also explains why just hiding stats would not be enough. They clearly want to hide your in game identity.

Just during the battle though, the result screen will show your real nickname. As for the article sure they will when they're about to introduce this feature in a new patch or when the ammo changes mania subsides, whichever is sooner. :)

Holy crap I just realized that if this goes through, and our dear friend Steve still uses XVM...just imagine those win % with this thing on.

And I do want to see what will happen to good and great players who use XVM and stream the game, will they choose the option or not.

We all know their followers will mostly do everything they do, why use the brain at all...right?

I guarantee there'll be unicums out there who use this anonymizer while simultaneously sporting top league 'ranked' badges or 260 badges with full honours and they'll wonder why nothing has really changed.

Damn if you do, damn if you don't it might be for the mediocre players. Don't anonymize and you might be one of the green players that might draw some focus as the best shown on your team. Do anonymize and you will get focused simply for the fact that you do so.

Wonder how friends and ban lists will apply. Guess the forum user mod will also be affected - a certain sad turtle can't hunt down hidden forumites either anymore.

I must say, I am enjoying the whining of XVM muppets quite a lot. As for the change itself, I guess it's better late than never, had they done this 5+ years ago, the game would probably have retained a lot of its playerbase.

Though I think a 2-stage approach might have been better, one restricts access to stats (for the regular Joe that wants to prevent XVM getting the information), second for the "celebrities" to hide their nickname.

In my experience most of the players with those badges are not unicums so are trying to use those badges as some sort of e-peen replacement to show they are good.

That is no surprise anymore. They really hate to punish or ban players.
