So, i was looking for some high assist games for unusual maps on wotreplays... To get some new ideas for other maps.

I found 6 games for a specific tank which interest me and i'd like to watch. These 6 games all happened in the timespan

of this last month and have god damn 5 different client versions. So technically i would have to download & install 5 older

game clients, which is 100+ gb, just to watch 6 replays from the same 4 weeks.

Are you serious with that muppet coding? It's not like the company earns 10 bucks a week and is developed in your grandma's

garage by 2 students. Jesus christ.

Why don't you just download them and try them? They've only been point patches recently for the events, not gameplay patches so they might still work.

Dude why you think i come here and open this topic? Because game client instantly crashes with any of those replays.

Yeah, it's unfortunate that doesn't care about replay compatibility. In fact, I believe they don't even provide a repository with older versions and you have to rely one a third party for maintaining that archive ? With so many patches coming out it must be an headache.

That said, I don't think there is any other way of watching replays. I remember a few years ago something called WoT Replay machine, which converted replays into video, server side. Can't find it anymore.

It's probably not a question of skill or programming in WG staff.

They just don't care.

The most irritating thing is that until about version 8.11 you were able to watch older replays just fine, even on maps that got changed/modified (it still showed the vehicles at their original location so you ended up with tanks flying or sliding under the ground but the replays basically worked)

Really a pity that they changed that.

Indeed. It was small price to pay compared to having your entire replay folder nullified because someone decided to change the in game garage for some temporary event.

I mean, I understand that maps have gone through so many changes that I don't expect 8.7 replays to work anymore. But a month with 5 micropatches which add nothing to the game feels lame.

"Try not the Pass!" the old man said;
"Dark lowers the tempest overhead,
The roaring torrent is deep and wide!"
And loud that clarion voice replied,
      Excelsior!

"Oh stay," the maiden said, "and rest
Thy weary head upon this breast! "
A tear stood in his bright blue eye,
But still he answered, with a sigh,
      Excelsior!

WG takes the most cost effective way of down compatibility.

Being an ignorant when it comes to poetry, does this particular passage end with WG's voice like a falling star saying : ' We could not care less' ?

It does not end well for the project

A traveller, by the faithful hound,
Half-buried in the snow was found,
Still grasping in his hand of ice
That banner with the strange device,
      Excelsior!

There in the twilight cold and gray,
Lifeless, but beautiful, he lay,
And from the sky, serene and far,
A voice fell like a falling star,
      Excelsior!

Well usually with minor patches they can work one version up if the changes are minor. But if there are major changes to the map you are trying to play, or even the tank. It might crash or refuse to start. As the replay is trying to do something you can't anymore. As in major reworks like paths you took are gone. Or minor like the terrain hitbox has been fixed etc. Or even tank hitboxes like the EBR's they have been fixing of late that might differ and cause conflicts. As much of the relics of the old engine still linger in the way thing works.

To make old replays work. They would have to leave much of the old info there too I suspect.
