Bought a TS-5 today, mainly as a US TD crew trainer, and have had very mediocre results in it so far, but getting a bit better as I learn its foibles.

Armour and gun both seem quite effective, but getting flanked means doom.

How do you use it?  Sniper or assault gun?

Any suggestions for equipment?  I have been experimenting, but currently mount Rammer, Toolkit and Binos.

Keep it pointed towards the enemy, side profile is big and soft, also whenever possible hide the lower plate, in the TS it is important to look at where the enemy is aiming, if they go for lower plate, you can angle it slightly to get the best possible protection(might save you from 220ish pen guns), if the lower plate is safe or the enemy goes for cupola wiggle, also when reloading raise the gun in front of the cupola to give them a difficult shot.
As for positioning, if top tier you can play as assault TD, vs tier 10 it is a support tank, either way it is not a sniper, it has neither the accuracy to snipe nor the speed to relocate.
You should try it in frontline, it is rather effective.

Rammer, Net and Binos

Get your camo up with a net, can achieve 45% with skills+BIA

Play to its strengths

Gun Armour and Camo

Tbh I've never played mine in Randoms. I won mine via the event. And it's been on FL many times with great success. That thing has farmed so many Majors and Generals for me defending turret 5 by the north rocks. There it seems less effective as an assault tool due to all the open areas. But hide that lower plate and keep the enemy from getting to close to hit that cupola, and it can hold a flank all day.

Tho as I've set mine up for FL still. I've run vents, rammer and a toolbox on it. Combined with a large repair kit, it won't stay de-tracked for long.

Thanks all.  My crew are nothing special but have BIA, 6th Sense, Repairs,  and are just starting on Camo.

I'd be hesitant to ditch the Toolkit for Camo Net as getting tracked in this is lethal.  Rammer is a no-brainer, but I had also been toying with Vents or Optics

I had also vaguely wondered about Heavy Spalls, as arty loves this one on open maps.

Point at enemy, pull trigger. Its like a baby T95 with rapid fire gun. Nice tank.

That is because it is as mediocre as any slow TD without a turret could be. (Lol)

buy lower tier premiums, they generate more exp.

Vent Rammer then Bino/optics forget the net and toolkit or replace once your crew are skilled up in repais.  It's not accurate enough to play as a sniper overa certain distance so take to the 2nd or front line and bully people with your amazing dpm I play mine mostly like a heavy

It's an assault gun mostly, the accuracy will fail you at longer distances, still if the situation requires camping, like when you're bottom tier, do it.

For crew get repairs first, you'll need it, and of course all the mandatory crew skills, SS, BIA and so on, maybe add FF (American tanks are famous off catching fire in game).

For equipment I went Rammer, vents, Optics.

Play aggressively but don't go ham, hide the LFP and you should be fine, and don't try to close the distance when fighting mediums or lights that can circle-strafe you to death.

Sniper if facing +2, assault if same/top tier as surprisingly, a lot of players still dont know its weakspots. Mines got bino/net/spall liner but i do have a 4 skill crew in it so repairs already done etc.

Find corridor,

Park fat butt at the end of it, preferrably in a hull down position,

Smash that godly DPM into everything you see,

????

Profit.

It does seem to be a very good cash generator, even when played badly.

Interesting to see so may different opinions on what equipment to mount on it.

Personally as an assault TD i'd lean towards rammer, GLD and optics. You have to move when reloading, and waiting for binocs to activate gives the enemy too long to aim at weakspots.

100% assault

but keep 2 tank in your back or side if there is no one to cover you just back  or run or just never go where you get alone    and dont trust your armor at all

but it has a simple mastery do 2000+2000and ther is 80% get mastery in that tank

I run mine with a rammer, optics and vents .But i'm considering dropping vents and going with a spall liner against HE

I use mine as a bully and push up hard in the faces of the enemy and its gone well so far a fun td to play

I dont know why everyone is on drugs with their weird suggestion but i would use...

...rammer , vents to maximize dpm and then either binos or toolbox (personally i would use the toolbox) . Camo net is a huge waste of an equipment slot.

He who thinks he is raising a mound may only in reality be digging a pit.

a camo net is not a waste when at least 55% of your battles will be bottom tier meaning you have to camp as a TS-5 melts against Tiers 9 and 10.

Camo net is a waste because this tank is not a sniper. You will miss a lot at range. Beside, the gun is good enough at medium to close range and has high enough dpm that even high tiers will fear trading with you.

For OP, hide your cupola and LP, track the enemy when possible. Enjoy.
