Hello fellow tankers!

For years now I've been playing WoT with a friend every other week. A year ago a second friend joined in on the fun and completed our platoon of three. We have a lot of fun playing as a platoon, but we notice a drawback: platoons get matched up against higher tier tanks much more often. This is especially troublesome as we try to grind through a line and thus play with sub-optimal modules and crew. Though we do end up with 50+% winrate after a night playing.

From experience we know that playing three light tanks at the same time is often not ideal, as is playing three td's. Three stock heavies is also not that great for winning. So I was thinking: are there platoon compositions that you could recommend? Certain tanks that go well together? Certain lines that can be grinded along eachother?

Thanks in advance for your reply!

Always go for three different classes, you'll get a bit better MM, not the best there is, but it'll be a little better.

E.g. you won't get into tier 4 with your tier 6 platoon, but you'll see less tier 8s.

  • Assault/armored TDs + Heavies.
  • Light + TDs (not the other way around).
  • Mediums wolfpack (Also work with heavies just don't get in the way of each others).
  • Fast heavies + mediums.

Those are just some successful combinations out of many. Being top or bottom tier is very hard to predict as i don't know which tier are you guys playing.

If you're really into that team game play which is very nice. You can perfect timing and positioning in a training room for different maps. Put the more aggressive element in a sniper vehicle so he can live longer. :)

I suggest to go for variety. If one plays a slow but well armoured vehicle, a lightly armoured support vehicle can help him. Let's say a VK100.01P combined with a Amx 50-100. Or a light tank combined with a tank destroyer. I often like to play a Batchat in a platoon (without a platoon too), and that thing matches up well with basically everything, just play your game. I prefer to not play slow tanks since they lack versatility, if a friend needs your help on an other flank you cannot quickly relocate. Also, if you and your friend both have fast tanks, you can spot flanking opportunities and win the game that way, I really like such plays. I wouldn't play with tank destroyers in platoon (or basically in general), but ymmv.

Not as true as it was before last mm changes.

Actually platoon mm is pretty nice nowadays.

Thanks for the advice already given!

As for the tiers: we pick a line and grind it up, so most time is in T6-T9 :)

Hull down medium or heavy, TD and a scout work really well. Think Caernarvon, T28 and Lynx. That type of thing.
