I didn't want to play the racing game but then I stumbled across one of the reward crew skins.

The main character from one of my favorite movies.

Now I need to grind through it :(

Well, the other crew members are Frank Slade "Al Pacino's character in Scent of a Woman", Herbert West is the scientist in the Reanimator, David Drayton is one of Steven King's characters from The Mist. The first one, Rudy Wurlitzer is apparently a screenwriter behind a few 70's classics.

And I can't see the other rewards from the other two teams. I suspect there are some pop culture names there too?

The original of The Thing was a lot better.

Generally speaking, all re-makes of films are worse than the original.

The Thing(1982)

One of my favourite movies.

The director of which, John Carpenter, leads to another of my top 50, the original, Assault on Precinct 13, also directed by him.

Actually, Kurt Russell has been in some belting films, Escape From New York City, Big Trouble in Little China, Tombstone, ..   ....not Overboard. Which is pig-pi55.

If you're a Kurt Russell fan, and want to learn a bit about the man, have a look at, The Battered Bastards of Baseball. It's on Netflix. It's an eye-opener, to say the least.

Any chance you two could post the full team list?

I prefer the remake from 1982 but I love the original and the prequel from 2011 as well.

at least there are some noticeable exceptions - but it is indeed a good rule of thumb.

for the star trek movies I might want to add the "only the even numbered films are good"

Well, they got Stalones character. But still... Kurt Russell is in that too. One of the best duos from the 80's IMO.

I rather like the first Star Trek film but it’s just not Star Trek.

3000 miles to graceland and Soldier too (and Stargate), Tequila Sunrise.

Soldier is not very appreciated but it was actually in the Alien Universe set.

Overboard i think was somewhat of a remake of a movie with Anthony Quinn in the 60's (or at least very similar).

Some horror movie remakes are "better" than originals at least technically, like Dawn of the Dead (1978 vs 2004) and Evil Dead (1981 vs 2013), but since the originals are classics, the remakes are kind of pointless.

Just occasionally you get a film where if they don't muck about too much with the script all the versions are good, but this is rare indeed.

An example might be The Postman Always Rings Twice, where I like both the 1946 and 1981 US versions, and the Italian 1943 Ossessione version is also good.  There were some other foreign adaptations which I haven't seen.

James M Cain was not only a brilliant thriller writer but also a hugely talented Hollywood scriptwriter.  Great chunks of his book's dialogue are lifted straight off the page of his book and fit neatly into the screenplay.  The same in his Double Indemnity, another brilliant noir film.

That also caught my interest and I found the following in the Blade Runner Fandom Wiki:

Todd's weapons training record lists the "USCM Smartgun" and the "M41A pulse rifle" (references to Aliens (1986))
