So, you pay streamers to play the game you like. You pay streamers to put various 'emotes' in chat..

You pay streamers to actually chat in the chat-box, to other people who have paid to chat to other people in the chat-box..

...and if you're feeling particularly stupid, generous, you send money to someone you have never met, to play a game that you play....

Am I mad, or has the world gone mad ...?

As I see it the streams are entertainment.  They are like a busker in the street, if you like what they do then you don't mind donating.

Personally I'm a doer not a watcher.  (oooerrr)

You're not mad. Just old and a bit tight.

Amazon bought twitch in 2014 for 970 million USD. That's 3 years worth of work from zero to almost a billion dollars in value. Somewhere in that colorful mess there is money to be made for a lot of people including streamers.

Many people are as you are. Others I found out as a streamer were happy to donate and subscribe because I entertained them, made them feel good and would keep them being happy.

As someone once said to me "I spent my life earning, now I get to spend my latter years enjoying life and throwing my money at what I want and enjoy the most".

The lunatics have been running the asylum for thousands of years, well, as far as I can ascertain, I mean for example, powdered wigs? :teethhappy:

The main reason for donations is probably to support the streamer so he can keep on making more content instead of ending up homeless.

But the world has indeed gone mad a long time ago. A while back I had to pay €80 (roughly the same in L money) to see a bunch of guys play instruments and sing. It wasn't even a voluntary donation like on Twitch. No Sir, gib monies or no show. Another time a friend wanted to go see a Champions League match. You wouldn't believe how much those guys with bad haircuts want for something I can do on the backyard for free.

Cost me sod all to watch Man City v Dinamo Zagreb and even if I paid it would have been a tenner or 20 quid:trollface:.

Really, you're comparing going to a concert, or a sports event, with sitting at home watching someone else play a video game ?

Yes. It's just another form of entertainment and a matter of taste what you choose. When you think about it, no form of entertainment makes sense. I bet when televisions first came out a lot of people were just as flabbergasted why anyone would like to stare at a box at home.
