Some fences or crates or things that can be crushed//destroyed by driving through them, stop my AP shells while some don`t, expecially when ennemies fire through them. Is there any logic to it or just random?

The best thing is to test this in a trainingroom with a friend.
Using AP and shooting at a wall will make it go trough, but if you hit a second item after the wall like a fence it will stop? Not sure, but thats what i always thought.

IIRC the number of obstacles a shell can go through depends on its penetration level, which decreases with each hit obstacle, until eventually stopping the shell completely. Best way to test this is to shoot a stone fence, see how many pillars you can hit/go through.

A doghouse will stop a shell completely, for instance.

I'm not sure how many cars your shell can go through though...

In Ensk, west of the railroads, one can shoot a car and then a fence near the spawns, so at least that I'm sure.

Two cars in a row also possible.

But it all boils down to the kind of ammo we're talking about, HE and HEAT go nowhere after impact, though HE can still splash some.

You know, water's harder than a wall.

Use a spud gun to shoot a chopping board with an apple, potato, or carrots, and they'll disintegrate. Shoot a tomato at it and it'll punch a hole clean through. Facts.

Your AP rounds lose 25mm of pen pr obstacle if you hit. So a low tier clip gun like the Pz1c with 33 pen can't eat past as much with a short burst on a pile of crates or a long fence wall vs a high pen gun etc. Tho iirc soft objects like the fence door gives 0 pen loss.

Regards to that I'm not sure if a car counts as one or multiple soft objects in terms of pen loss vs say one fence pole vs say a lower plate behind one or two cars. I can't see if anyone has done a test on that either.

Hello,

as stated above - AP shell that goes through an obstacle loses some of its penetration. In case oh heavy shells the loss may not be all that significant, but for small caliber it can make all the difference between penetration and bounce. Also, smaller caliber shells tend to lose penetration over distance so if you have a smaller caliber shell ( say, 75mm or less ), you shoot through two obstacles to a target 400m away you may get quite a lot of bounces.

As i know it only reduces the penetration value once even if you pen thru 5 cars and 3 fences at same time.

It may well be. I noticed this issue some time ago, but it got more ovbious when i started playing WZ 111 witch has a low pen 18x on AP shells.
