Not a bad slow heavy TD on the basis of my first three games, all wins, despite my very modest contribution.

Good credit maker, net 50K per game so far.

It does have my 4 skill Tortoise crew in it

I was considering buying it, but TS-5 seems still like a better choice all around.

Better armor, better alpha and it's faster at least by top speed.

EDIT: It's probably not a bad tank by any means, but didnt try it.

Very situational

Some games are fun

Some games are a nightmare

Some games there was no point in you turning up

But its nice to have a TD which can go looking for trouble and bait shots

It's the only tonk I own where I pray for a small map

4th game was a wash but 5th game below worked okay. 2500 damage done with standard AP, 2 kills, blocked 1800 incoming, I just trundled around killing stuff.  70K net credits.  A very easy TD to play if you don't mind slow.

Met one yesterday while playing my T28 proto, and we end up face to face.

The enemy was carefully positioned behind a wreck, and so was I, but while my 300mm pen cheesed him out of the game, he was struggling even with APCR.

Despite not disliking slow armored tanks, I was not impressed.

Hmm, I never managed to get my JgTg 88 to do anything.  But it does look cuter.

It's the DPM and 10 degrees of depression that I wanted, I can peek!

Plus it has a good armour profile

But the rest of it is very limited

Still glad I got it tho

TS5 is a beast that can take on tier 10s and smash tier 8s...  but it can rarely peek

Bounced a couple of JPZ100 shots yesterday, 1050 apiece yikes!

Now I just need 2 great offers to go into the store in the next 6 hours so I can use the others.

What's cute about a moveable mail box?... :D

TS 5 is the cool guy.

Jd.tiger has good DPM but bad pen on both shells. Thus I love the way it looks too. :)

I like high DPMs but I don't like slow tanks...

Best examples for my sentence is the S.Conqueror, STB-1, Kranvagn and T57 heavy.

Well, that makes 5 wins for me in 6 games.

No statistical significance, obviously, but I suspect that this is one in which poor players like me may do a bit better than expected.

I won't lie - the Turtle looks adorable, it's like Badger's toddler child, all chubby and happy, it even smiles! :)

That said, with all the gold flying around and the very slow speed I don't know, it looks like it's going to have a hard time in the current meta.

Also it's a frontline tank and not a sniper (terrible shell velocity), so imagine ending up against anything Tier 9-10 while driving this tank. I'm not sure it would be fun at all. :sceptic:

What would you mount on it?

I currently have Rammer, Optics and Vents

AP pen at 224 seems okay, I haven't yet shot any APCR.

Credits generated still running at net 50K per game

But xte rather terrifyingly tells me that I am in the bottom 2% of Turtle 1 players.

So what anyone even halfway good in it might do is scary.

Turtle will have good armor for a few weeks, and by then everyone knows when to load premium rounds and where to shoot. The frontal armor is good against ~230mm pen and pretty much cheese against 250mm+ guns unless you can use gun depression and often you can't.

Such is the fate of most armor in WoT, unless the armor can bounce premium shells like 279e.

Seems like it would work on very few maps. The armour isn't strong enough to withstand even tier VIII tanks reliably at close range (The front is easily pennable with gold) So I would not say this can work as an assault tank except perhaps vs lower tiers.

It's armour is going to work best at mid range, and due to the bad shell velocity it's going to require alot of premium to perform reliably. Using a ridge is a must as you will increase the value of the armour up to a considerable 280+ at the front. As long as the cheese lower plate is hidden it'll be difficult to pen.

The gun traverse is reasonable at 40 degrees, so camo net and binos are an option (not sure how good the camo is but it shouldn't be terrible) along with a gun rammer to increase that nice 3k DPM.

Also be wary that the base of the gun is very easy to pen, so wiggling is not a great tactic.

And then there's this weakspot, that not many know yet.

I think the problem in that analysis is "everyone"

While that may be true for you and other excellent players it will not be true of 99% of players in random games, who will be clueless.

Just blocked 3K in my last game

Rammer and vents for sure, and optics is a good choice since with both vision skills, vents and BiA it maxes out at 445, so you can spot for yourself. As an alternative to optics I would consider spall liner, but not sure.

I think people already spam gold at Turtle, no need to wait weeks. They see it, they fire once or twice, the shots bounce, and then they load gold and that's it.

... it's actually really sad when you think about it. :(

This is how WoT work now, we'll wait for the release of "Special ammo rebalance" and hope for some serious changes in gameplay.

Turtle can fit very well in FL! Just hide the belly and defend the objectives for years.

But in random battles?  It'll probably be usual TD.

Its got the usual advantages of all premium tanks.

At first players don't fully understand it and given its being judged as not that good it will catch out a few enemies.

Later players will learn the weaknesses and punish it hard.

It will underperform and likely get a buff

I will play it as long as I can make it work then ignore it till things change or its buffed.
