Discussion about the planned new TD line
UMM
30 Dec 2011
Hello,
I'd thought I'd start a thread on this subject because there isn't a specific one yet, and I think it really deserves to be dicussed IMO.
Now, WG is thinking about introducing a new german TD line, composed mainly by TD which were essentially paper armour with big guns, big Marders in short (Nashorn, Sturer Emil Etc.)
Sturer Emil for example mounted the 12.8cm gun (not JagdTiger's gun) on a VK3001 chassis and that actually sounds rather nice, but to me, solely the Sturer Emil on the same tier as the Ferdi for example (less armour, more gun, you see?) as a choice would have worked out nicely, but do we really need, or even want a TD line made of paper armour tanks which leads precisely to the Ferdi and E-100 TD which, the Ferdi at least, are tanks which people want to grind?
Basically, why put tanks that people want like the Ferdi (which ironically has massive armour) ahead of a aline made of awful paper armour vehicles?
Sturer Emil (12.8cm gun, VK3001 chassis)

Dickermax (funny name) (10.5cm gun, PzIV chassis)

Nashorn (long 88, PzIV chassis, looks like a Hummel)

Well, they would have to make up for lack of armor with something else. As an example, my grandfather was a SS td commander during the war, stated that the nashorn had the best optics for a mobile gun he had ever seen. Never commanded one, but as he stated had the privilege of seeing them in action and trying them. So my point is, if they implemented massive view range, complimented by a big gun with matching accuracy, aim time and speed(speed was in RL around 40km I believe)...It could be a real dangerous threat.
In addition, one of the reasons it was out into production was its low cost, so implement that aswell(low ammo cost, low repairs etc)and it could be considered a moneymaking TD.
Now, if they manage to pull out each tds "particularity" it could be real interesting, as for the marder comparison, imagine a marder2 with the 12,8, wouldnt you like to drive it? the marder has no armor either but man, it tears shit apart

Pretty much mobile artillery with a little more armour and a little less firepower.

I can live with self-igniting paper armor, low hp and bad mobility if these TDs will have good camo value and the most accurate guns...
I think the Sturer is the coolest looking of 'em all:

though the sturer emil has a tier 9 gun. A long 128mm anti tank weapon. 128-mm-KwK L/61 the Jagdtiger had the 12,8-cm-PaK 44 L/55.

the tanks in this line are all limited production/prototypes
e.g. Dickermax - 2 produced
Sturer Emil - 2 made
etc.
However these tanks will, in general terms, have epic gun, awesome view range and decent manouvrability

well more tanks is always fun. Tough as I supose anybody who have played the german TD line pre ferdi know its not like they are currently blessed with awsome armor anyways.
However it would have been fun if we could have seen the Brummbar and/or the sturmtiger make an appearance. Would have made for a fun change in pase with the german TD line.

I meant the historical configuration. Anyway the Jagdtiger in WoT has the 12.8 cm PaK 44/2 L/61 sturer Emil should have the 12.8 cm PaK 40 L/61 or something. But sad is that there are no informations about either weapon available ... historical informations I mean.
a while back i did some digging and found that they are not the same gun,
the barrel length is the same but the chamber of the PaK44 is larger.
this allows it to hold a larger charge to propel the projectile.
they also used different rounds, which had different penetration values.
so it will not get the same damage as JT, but it will still pack quite the punch

One thing I'm wondering is this - if I already have the Jagdpanther, Ferdinand and Jagdtiger Elited (i.e. have completed that whole line of the tech tree), will I get the Jagdpanther 2 for free when the Ferdinand gets moved to the other line? Can't remember which tank it was, but I seem to recall players getting a free Russian tank when one of their lines was changed around...
Yep, they're two different guns; they kept the calibre the same at 128mm since Rheinmetall had tooling already set up to work at that calibre.

No you shouldn't get the JPII for free, but any XP built up on the JP, and the Ferdie for that matter, can be used to research the JPII
and Stug E straight away. I have 170K on the JP, working on the Ferdie. Will get them both as soon as the are available.

I just noticed an interesting thing regarding the guns:
In the new TD line, it goes Dickermax (historical 105L52) then Nashorn (historical 88L71), while in the current line, you research the 105L52 after the 88L71.
This also left me wondering on how are they going to handle gun research. Marder III with 75L70, Dickermax with 88L71 and 105L52 and Nashorn with the same gun selection?

Based on the historical guns this could be what they will carry in WoT. Second line looks to have less armor but (much) more firepower compared to the current line (@same tier).

That T9 TD looks like WoT's Chuck Norris.
It would kill all the fun out of this game. I do think that panzers need some love but this is too much
Now going to look it again and have another great laugh
