Hiya fellow tankers!

For the last 2 years Christmas had a great feature called “Holiday Ops” where you could upgrade your garage, which was transformed into a winter wonderland. Upgrading it to the next level earned you nice goodies like up to 4 female crew members, equipment, consumables etc, as well as credits & xp earnings bonuses. (For full details see link below.) Apart from the four female crew members, you also unlocked the ability to apply a discount to any regular tech tree tank that did not expire (my discounted T10 from last year is still waiting patiently for me). This varied from 100% discount (yes, 100%) on T1-5 tanks to 30% discount on any one T10 tank, which is equal to a TotT discount and twice as good as the ‘regular’ high tier discounts – 15%.

Note: The Tier 9 Christmas discount was 40% I believe – much better than the 30% discount you get during TotT!

Now, it hasn’t been confirmed yet, but hopefully it will be in the next few days, but I am fairly certain that WG will indeed return that format for this Christmas (HO usually started around 13-15 December), and it got me thinking: If the discounts are also included, what tanks would I apply said discounts on? And one thing I remember was that several people applied the discounts on tanks that later would become part of the TotT special, which meant they “wasted” a great discount on high tier tanks.

So, since Christmas is the season of giving, I did some digging and here is an overview of those tank lines that have been TotT under the new format, and thus these would be the smartest lines to spend your discount on, since all the other ones in potential are still up for TotT.

•November: E50 Ausf.M – GER MT
•October: Foch B - FRA TD
•September: Sheridan – USA LT
•August: STB-1 – JAP MT
•July: WZ-111-5A – CHN HT
•June: Object 268 – USSR TD
•May: Centurion AX – UK MT
•April: AMX 50B – FRA HT
•March: Maus – GER HT

Another tip: if you have multiple tanks of the same tier you are considering spending the Christmas discount on – apply it to the most expensive tank. May seem obvious, but it may also save you some extra credits.

Lastly, a possible unpopular tip: WG have already stated that SPGs will not be TotT ever. So if you are grinding arty lines, then perhaps it is wisest to apply the discounts on this class.

TL;DR – I may not be a good player, but being Dutch, I am frugal and always looking for a great deal, so be wise on which tanks you apply your Christmas discount! If it is in the (tech tree line of the) above list – then YES! If it is not in the above list – then NO!

I might even add my tips regarding the baubles at a later time, but what do you think of the above? Have any other tips and tricks to add? What are you going to spend your discounts on?

Happy tanking!

~Dutch

PS Please dont discuss the loot boxes in this thread. It is either already being discussed in other threads, or most likely, will be in the dozen of threads that will be created once the lootboxes become available.

EDIT: It's coming!!!

I don't have the time now, but perhaps someone can dig up the list of 100% discount tanks that are recommended to buy and then sell at half price for credits. I can't remember them, but they will be on a thread from last year.

I seem to recall the tier II or III French SPG was the most expensive, but I can't remember other than that.

Edit- it is somewhere around page 150 of the forum, but I didn't see it with a quick scan.

Nothing to add. Just wanted to say thank you for doing this. Some great advice in there.

For this reason I have unlocked Bobject and Standard B but have not bought them yet. Waiting for Christmas discounts :)

Those 4 out of your list are IMO the only ones currently worth grinding, and the Cent AX line is only really in there because I am biased towards the Cent 7/1.

Plus the Maus is of course not to everyone's tastes due to the speed, but despite the premium ammo complaints it's still a strong tank if used correctly and will probably soon be even more effective once the premium ammo changes go through.

The WZ-111-5A is the most meta and strongest tank in that list, easily one of the best tier 10 heavies and STB-1 is a lot better than it used to be (though I would argue the UDES 15/16 which has the same siege mode suspension, is the stronger of the two)

The Foch B, 268, Sheridan are not very good (and from recollection their lines are not great either).

The E50M and the 50b are out of the meta, whilst not necessarily being bad tanks, there are just better options out there. The lead up to the 50b is very meh as well, but the E50 is still a strong tank (just don't ask about the Panther 2).

--------------------------------------------------------

IIRC last year someone produced a list of the best tanks to buy if you just wanted to use the lower tier discounts to make credits (so any discount above 50%), I think if you used up to the tier 7 discounts IIRC then you could make a good 700k credits by just buying tanks with the discounts and selling them.

Good tips tajj! I am grinding all over the place, so I am not too picky which line is (out of) meta, but those looking to apply all the discounts on one tree will find this usefull I am sure! :great:

Personally I missed getting the Maus and started late & progressed too slow on the Jap MT line, so my plan for now is as follows:

T10 discount: Maus

T9: Type 61

T8: Su-14-2 (sorry :hiding:)

T7: Probably AT7 or Leo

T2-6: Dunno yet

Dutch, or anyone else, can you remember if there were routine tech tree credit discounts running over Christmas last year? separate to the Holiday Ops discounts I mean.

On my shopping list I have 1 x t10 and 3 x t9s to buy; UDES 15/16, T95, Conq, M53/55 (with obligatory apologies). I want to buy them soon (not waiting for next year's TOTT) and am trying to work out the best purchasing strategy.

Bound to be discounts over the Xmas and new year period - just wait a bit.  You could search back over last year's news articles to see what happened last year.

Just got my t10 discount from last year a few weeks ago (amx 13 105).

This year likely I will activate most I already researched... JpzE100 or 268, ebr 90 or obj 257, tier 8???, Swedish Leo at 7. Probably Italian tier 4-6 as I plan to start that line. Unless of course there is already a decent discount on all tech tree tanks, then I will mix it up a bit.

I actually cant recall if we had additional discounts on top of the Festive discount from upgrading your garage. But you do already have a couple of contenders to use that discount on!

If you have all the tanks you need and want to purchase the most expensive tank in tier and then later sell it for silver in order to make a profit here is the old list from 2018 [credit for this work goes to an NA player called Errants];

And, since they're doing the same thing again, this year (II-V 100% off, VI 80%, VII 60%, VIII 50%, IX 40%, X 30%), let's see if anything has changed with the new nations. Please remember that all numbers will be what you net in profit unless otherwise stated. There may be tanks close to the leader/runner(s) up, but I'm using the rough rule of "close enough for Errants to mention", and not a hard and fast percentage for almost making the cut.

Tier II - H35 - 2.1k - Still the winner, though the runners' up have changed...
Runner(s) up - M14/41 @ 2.05k, and 7TP @ 1.975k. You also have the following all at 1.95k: Strv m/38, VAE Type B, Chi-Ni, LT vz. 35, FCM 36, Loyd GC, and UC 2-pdr

Tier III - SU-26 - 26.5k - Unchanged
Runner(s) up - Any other arty are 22.5k - 25.5k. Those vehemently anti-arty can lose out on at least 3k with the following: Type 91 @ 23.25k, Pz 1 C @ 22.9k, M15/42 @ 22.7k, and Chi-Ha @ 22.5k

Tier IV - B1 - 92.5k - Unchanged
Runner(s) up - D.W. 2 @ 85k, Type 95 @ 83k, VK 20.01 D @ 78.5k, St.Pz. II @ 78k, and SARL 42 or Luchs @ 77.5k

Tier V - O-I Exp. - 222.5k - Unchanged
Runner(s) up - T1 Heavy @ 217.5k, Type T-34 @ 215k, AT 2 @ 212.5k, and StuG III G @ 211k

Tier VI - M4A3E2 "Jumbo" - 195k purchase, 487.5k sale, 292.5k net - Unchanged
Runner(s) up - Churchill GC @ 289.5k, and Hellcat or O-I @ 285k

Tier VII - O-Ni - 596k purchase, 745k sale, 149k net - Unchanged
Runner(s) up - T29, IS-2, and 45TP all @ 145k, or Crusader SP, Chi-Ri, T-34-2G FT, and P.43 ter @ 144k

So, for a total cost of 791k, you'll get back 1.5761m, or a net profit of 785.1k... Wow. Not that great, but making money.

Again, we're already in the rabbit hole, so let's look at the higher tiers, and try to get the biggest savings (and see how much of our profit we lost)!

Tier VIII - FV207 - 2.73m base, 1.365m purchase/sale, net 0 - Unchanged
Runner(s) up (base costs listed) - SU-14-2 (2.72m); M40/43 (2.7m); T28 Prot., G.W. Tiger P, and AT 15 (all 2.65m); UDES 03 (2.62m); T32 (2.61m); 110 and 53TP (2.6m)

Tier IX - 212A and Type 4 Heavy - 2.22m purchase, 1.85 sale, 370k loss net - Unchanged
Runner(s) up (cost/loss following sale) - Foch (2.202m/367k); Obj. 704 (2.196m/366k); M103 (2.184m/364k); G.W. Tiger, Conqueror, Type 61, and Strv 103-0 all @ 2.16m/316k

Tier X - They're all 6.1m, so 4.27m cost regardless. And if you're selling a Tier X... I dunno what to tell you, but I shouldn't be advising your actions.

You sell at 50% of the usual purchase price so any discount above 50% will give a profit.

It's what I did last year, use the up to tier 7 ones to make a little bonus credits and the tier 8-10 on tanks I might want.

So, just to check, as I understand it we haven't been told about any credit discounts for tech tree tanks.

There are no big discounts as part of the festivity levels and no normal discounts (eg 10% for tier X) as part of daily offers.

Is that correct?

There is an event announced from 21st Dec which brings discounts for Tanks. It was said by monthly rundown at start of Dec. Check news on the main Page.

Though it was not said which tanks and what discounts will be offered.

Gah, the selectable discounts were one of the best things about holiday ops.  Being able to take your time over a line instead of the usual having to rush up the tree in one month was such a good prize.  It was the only reason I went to level IX on my alt account.  This random act of meanness will probably cost WG a few people buying big boxes.  I wonder why they took it out.
