I was playing on Mannerheim and was killed when our team had two tanks left , a TD & SPG while the enemy still had a heavy and a TD.

I went back to the garage and checked the result after the battle was over. I wish I had watched until the end & kept a replay!

I found that our team had won by capping out yet both had been killed while the enemy still had their two tanks!  I can only guess that our last tank had been killed in the last fraction of a second as the cap timed out though I had thought in that case we would still have lost.

Anyone any better thoughts?

Seems to me that they got the win by cap thing, and in the 5 seconds after they got killed.

It is strange that you can win with all tanks dead, but that is what happens if the capping tank(s) is/are killed after cap is complete. We have had forumites ranting and raving about it before now about how silly it is.

My response to this is that you have (up to) 15 minutes to win a battle. If the enemy has capped out, and you cannot win it in the final few seconds, then what have you been doing all of the minutes leading up to the end of the battle?

If you imagine a special forces unit with job to do. If they have planted the explosives and started the timer, and the last one is killed, their mission has still been successful if the explosives go off. This was probably the closest analogy I could think of in the past.

This. It doesn't matter if you killed all the enemy if you did it after they completed their win condition, you still lost.

Unless it was 16-0 I highly doubt it.

For the first eight years or so of WoT you won if you managed to kill all tanks, even if the enemies had completed a cap.

Then they changed it so now you win with a successful cap even if you all die.

(This is the reason why so many FCs in CW yell about holding fire when capping as you could lose due to time being extended 5s each time a tank was killed)

what is really silly is that it's still possible to do damage after the battle officially ended.

Thing is, that before elimination came before cap. So if you killed the cappers even after they got to 100%. You still won. Not anymore. As no cap goes over elimination. Why? Forum whines about them failing the cap missions all the time due to it. So instead of fixing the missions, they fixed the order of priority for wins. Now killing them won't affect anything but a loss that's already assured.

What would the point of the cap timer be if you can still win by killing the enemies after they capped? It's good WG changed it.

Uf, thats a shame. I feel for you. I died late game with almost 99% certainty that we lose.

After awhile, post game results. Our last arty killed 8 enemies (I left the game when he had 1!!)

I was like daym!!! Messaged the guy to congratulate him.

I can only imagine the enemy players who died late game, thought ok its 8v1. Wrote GG in chat. And the few minutes later got greeted by that post game result. :teethhappy:

I don't think it was in any patchnotes.

wiki is not updated and still lists the old way for how it works.

edit: I know there's been some forum posts about it but I could only find one from jan 2017 (which seems a bit too early to me)

I'm pretty sure it was implemented before the CW campaign in december 2017
