I found this article explaining the WG wanted to steer away from pay to win an wanted to introduce a free to win model.

i think that it is really funny to look at this looking at some of the tanks you can buy in today’s game.

here is the article if you want to read it for yourself:

The game has slight hints of pay to win in form of few premium tanks that are too good, but it certainly is nowhere near pay-to-win as a whole. The correct way to describe it is pay-to-progress-faster.

Pay-to-progress-faster was in 2014....Pay to win is making available an OP item only in cash shop (prem tanks like defender, LT432 ,Lefh, E25, 703(lootboxes).Do f2p players have access to them or even people that just buy premium time with 10 euros per month like a sub? Does the game sell only vanity items/cosmetic in prem shop?.What do you expect via p2w a "+10 sword" oneshotting people in duel like some korean joke of MMOs?. You can play the game for free and have fun,xp and silver is easier to get these days. It is their game and their business model, fine by me but the "pay-to-progress" ship has long sailed.

Like I said, there are few premium tanks that are too good. Rest such tanks are freely available by grinding or personal missions or CW for free-to-play players. Something like 703 II is not OP so getting it in a lootbox is not pay-to-win.

And does the game have to make its money from selling skins and such instead of premium tanks to be considered not p2w? No. The premium tanks we've gotten for a long while now have all been well balanced, ever since Mauerbrecher afai remember.

It's still free-to-win

Grind out a T10 super tonk or an 279e

They aint for sale

You can pay for xp though, once you've earned it

The best tonks still can't be bought

...until tomorrow am :):coin:

Best t6 LT -Type64,best med T3485M,Best T7 TDs E25,SU 122 44 (broken camo),13 57 and type62 are way better than the tech tree one save T71DA. Can an is3 compare to a defender, a 50 100 to a somua,a wz 132 to a LT432,something to the progetto or scorpionG,a T32 to the renegade? etc.

I get your point that f2players have access to clan war tanks/obj 260,obj279 or could obtain some premium tanks  from  discountathons. But if you are paying an "advantage" in the shop thats p2w. Call it mini pay2win,some form of p2w thats still p2w.When WG was selling premium tanks that where inferior or equal to the elited tech tree ones but had crew training potential and bonus income this was the "pay to advance faster" era.

Try to find developer video where they say that armored cars will never be introduce in WoT, because game is all about tanks and other armored track vehicles and cars won't fit the gameplay.

But playing only free to grind T8,9 and 10 won't allow you to breakeven with credits. Even if you win/loose 50% there's a moment you won't cover the cost of repairs, let alone premium ammo or special consumables. The absence of those will only lower your win/lose ratio.

In 2013 that is. In 2019 people just need a premium account to afford premium ammo and consumables. No one* really grinds in 2019.

*Might be slightly exaggerated.

But yeah, i rarely shoot premium, let alone use premium consumables.
All ,my silver goes toward buying researched tanks.
I would probably do better If i wouldn't grind multiple lines, having multiple matches a day in stock or half working configs.

It's true, I remember I saw that. Those were the old devs though, they also thought that 5 arty per game was fine and that old Leo was the strongest tank in the game.

5/team was still better than 15 vs 14 +1LT. (I was not here then.)

Breaking even F2P account is possible, but when you meet tier X Defender and you drive tier VII T32, you auto-lose if you use AP.

6 year old article, do you really expect companies to set their policy in stone for ever?

I personally don't care if a game is or isn't behind some kind of paywall, if you don't like it, stop playing - you have no entitlement to how the game should be, as a consumer you either consume or don't

TS-5 = Op p2w ...I do believe it is the strongest tier 8 now ..More like a 8 3/4 or a 9 tbh ...Meet that in any tier 6 or 7 and you are toast ...Then there is the Prog 46 another OP tank then the Lorr then the Skorp G then the etc etc etc ...So many OP prems ..Free players have their work cut out and rightly so as those who PAID for the premium tanks are the ones who keep the game rolling ..I have no Sympathy for Freeloaders ;)
