I am curious how you guys use your crewbooks to train your crews. Having loads of them now I only now have looked into them and to my surprise, I cannot use them on half trained crews because they are not at the same level which ( with the exception of the book for training 1 member) kinda undercuts the whole point of crewbooks?

Also, buying 75% crews still doesn't allow for crew books to work on them.. so does that mean I need to train those till they reach 100% skill. Why?

Any tips are welcome :)

Yes, they only work on 100% crews. Why? I don't know.

I haven't bought any yet, but I've used the freebies to get lower tier crews up to 100% in their first skill, which probably wouldn't happen otherwise.

Yes, crew have to be at 100% of basic training (ie before any perks can be learned) before you can use the books.

I've stored the books up and then used them en masse to train a new crew. I recently trained a new girl commander to 5 skills from scratch. Using the books piecemeal seems a waste to me.

Top tip: find a spare 100% crew in barracks; train them up with crew books with Sixth, BIA, Camo/Repairs etc. Then move them to the tank you want them to drive. They'll be at 80/90% of core skill but all of the extra perks and skills will work.

I suspect they only work on 100% crews to encourage people to spend gold on a new crew so that you can skill them up with a 2m credit book straight away.

I've bought a couple of the 2m books for different crews when I want to put a skill on them and used a few freebies when I want to give a crew a boost. This morning I used one of my 850,000 xp books on my Swedish TD commander so that she'd have full camo and recon skills but that's exceptional.

I'm not sure there is a "most effective method" for applying books - use them on crews you want to improve, don't use them if the crew is performing adequately because you might be able to use them better somewhere else in the line. It's down to the player and whatever lines/crews you're grinding.

I use them on a whim. Mostly to push crews to get BIA, but if for some nations I don't need such, I just use them on which ever tank at any given time has my favor. Mostly light tanks, though since I think they imo benefit from skilled crews the most.

Ok, thanks for confirming my thoughts. So I have a bunch of left over crews, some with perks and skills, I can do a reset of skills and still use crewbooks since they only work on 100% crews without any skills or perks now.

Good to know.

Well, Tier 8 Premium Tanks are no longer used to train crews. You grind credits, and then buy a 2 millions crew book.

I'm grinding the British LTs, but I don't have any crew for them. Here's what I did for the Tier 8 LHMTV :

I have a rental Tog in my garage. Rental period is over, but it came with a 100% crew. I didn't choose a single skill. Used a crew book on it, then put the commander, the gunner and the driver in my LT.

Retrained them for credits. Then I chose 6th Sense and Camo for the other 2 members. Wasn't 100% so I bought another crew book, and after that one, I could choose my second skill.

And just like that, my tank was ready.

I use them on crews that have no skills or low skills (1-2 skills), to get them to 3 skills asap (Sixt, Gun skills, camo) for instance on lights and mediums.

Best used on bare crew with no skills or only slight training. They make a very big difference to new crews and get them to 1 or 2 skills quickly but once a crew gets several skills they don't do a whole lot and would be wasted.

I use 850K crew books on drivers because they need quite a load of skills. BIA, Camo, Smooth Ride, Offroad driving, clutch breaking and repairs.

Good point. I've done similar when moving 100% crews up to the next tank. Apply a book, don't pick the next skill and then move them up for credits. Some (or all) of the unassigned xp will be used to bring the main qualification up to 100%, meaning you have a crew that's ready to go, usually with some xp left over.

That only really works on the first couple of skills though, once you get into the third skill the xp requirements are too high to make it worthwhile unless you've got millions of credits to burn.

Mostly I am ignoring them though I have used some of the smaller ones to get a first skill.

I had a couple of crews at 80-90% towards their first skill I used crew books to tip them over so I had sixth sense and so on.

When I unlock a new tank and start moving crews around I will be using the crew books I can buy for 2 million credits to give them a boost

Mostly this will be if I am keeping the old tank I will take a 100% crew boost it with a crew book or 2 then move them into my tank and retrain.

If I use credits Ill have a 90% crew but with probably 2 extra skills and getting back to 100% will not take long.

Now we have more of these female crews around and quite a few commanders with 1 or 2 zero skill picks it might be fun to turn them into super-commanders.

Only 52 crew books needed to get a 6 skill crew and if the zero picks work as they should that's a 7 skill crew and perhaps an 8 skill commander.

For just 104 million credits

The first 2 crew skills are good value for money but I would say do not pay credits for anything beyond 2 skills, grinding is better value

If possible use them on tanks with a lot of crew. If you're paying millions for books might as well train 6 guys at once as 3 and then you can move then into their own tanks later.

... but while grinding credits you also grind crews, don't you. No matter whether you select a skill for them.

Wow http://www.planetwot.com/Crewxp/ is still online, hence:

  • 1st skill 210k XP or 2m credits
  • 2nd skill 420k XP or 4m credits
  • 3rd skill 840k XP or 8m credits -> more than tier 10 vehicle
  • 4th skill 1.680k XP or 14m credits
  • 5th skill 3.360k XP or 28m credits
  • 6th skill 6.6720k XP or 54m credits
  • 7th skill 13.440k XP or 108m credits

So a total 214m credits will give you 7 skill crew, which is worth about 12k matches of a regular crew.

I've seen garage screenshots that showed even more credits.

Is there a difference when applying books the femal or crismas crews?

Any experince?

Yo do have to put them in a tank they are 100% trained for before you can start using books on em though.

Female/special crews get one or two skills for free so your numbers would still be the same, but they would reach the same skill level for much cheaper.

No, you can use them on crews with perks and skills. Don't use gold to reset!

The conditions are:

The crew must be 100% on the basic training.

For books that train more than one crew member (all except the universal 850k one), you need a complete crew on the corresponding vehicle. You cannot train an IS crew on an IS6. Premium vehicles will only train their own crew.

If it's a Russian crew book or a crew book that can be used for a Russian crew it goes straight to my glorious KV-2 crew.

If it's some other nation, it most often will collect dust, sometimes I use some german ones but that's about it.
