Does anyone why 'this' map was removed?

I think the name was Windstorm, but i could be mistaken.

As much as i can tell most people liked it.

There is a big chunk for heavies and meds (city) and TD+light were mostly on the north route... 

It didn't have any big steeps so slow tanks could move around a lot and yet it had enough corners to hide!

 

It was, in short, a very cool map (no pun intended).

I've wondered the same thing. Maybe it didn't cause enough frustration so they replaced it with Paris.

It was not a very good map, though that applies to a lot of maps in game so I don't know what the official reason was. 

 

I think it's an early example of typical WG bad map design, ticks a lot of the wrong boxes -

 

  • Use up lots of space with unplayable areas with water and mountains - check.
  • Have loads of base camping spots approached by open ground - check.
  • A lot of the course of the battle revolves around a small city/corridor fight - check.
  • Have flanks that are basically corridors and don't really interact with each other - check.
  • Have a 'medium' area that is no real use and just gets shot by camping TDs - check.

You say early example I say normal or even their current model.

because Global Warming, snow melted and flooded the city

 

 

P.S.: old good days on that map .. city part was beyond fun

Was never a really good map, but anyway miles better than Minsk.
Since i started playing this game in 2013 all the great maps was already made.
Everything made after, has either been drastically changed or removed.

I didn't like it and shed no tears when it was removed. I guess one of the reasons they cut it was due to the climbs. Could be. 

 

edit: they should make it playable in training room so that the Windstorm Grand Prix could get a revival

You missed has a climb that only light tanks / fast mediums could use that was completely OP

But this map was not removed. The game got updated to version 1.0 and with that all the old SD maps got replaced by HD maps (worse version gameplay but with better graphics). This map just happen to be one of the maps that didn't got updated to HD. At the release of 1.0 there were alot of old maps missing but they got included as time passed Exemple: Highway, Widepark and Kharkov.

 

We need to wait for them to build it as HD.

True. As it took 90 days pr map to make them HD, they would not get to all of them in time for the patch. And at the end, some maps were removed in 1.0 as they had no HD maps for them, and the new engine did not work with the SD maps. Some have returned since then, inc Pilsen and Highway. Others were said they would not get the HD rework like Stalingrad. Windstorm was never mentioned to be one of those maps. But it's not mentioned on the 2020 map list either they talked about a few weeks ago. 

 

Tho personally I thought this was a "meh" map. And not hated like other past removed maps. Tho it has seen a few changes due to issues it had, it was far from a perfect map. And it was a favorite of the mountain goats too. The D1 spot being the most annoying one.

Half of the maps are like this, at this point it's kinda "why this map isn't removed yet?" the real question.

Yeh it had a climb but they fixed those on multiple maps.

I have not seen the Paris map in ages.  Is it still in the rotation?

With the introduction of such a variety of 'new' tanks, and 'different', abilities, I say give the removed maps a go again.

 

What's the worst that could happen ..?  :B

I wouldn't know either, having blocked it as soon as it became possible. But unfortunately my New recruit hasn't...

Hated that map with a passion. Mostly due to the mountaingoating that was still possible at that time.

The climbs were the most fun part of the game.

I actually liked that map. 10 times better than the utter garbage that is Empires Border.

Hm perhaps Wheeled tanks could have reached places they shouldn't. (like it was the case with the first iteration of the boost).

Anyhow. I think it was a great little map for what it is... - something they could try to fix, instead of tempering with hot garbage like 'Swamp' (which had 3reworks and is still missing...)

Like others map are in standby, WG have at least 20 maps, and we play in 8, the maps in standby can come later, and whit some upgrades. This is not only one nice map in standby, have others.
