I'm an infrequent player...

When and why did WG take away the option of buying and keeping a stock of ammo on your account?

When they removed discounts on ammunition and introduced the updated depot. Absolutely no reason to store ammo anymore.

Thanks for the reply Nethraniel

Though I don't understand why a choice has been removed. What's wrong with buying a stock of ammo regardless of it being discounted or not.

It's about free choice, not reason. Everybody has their own reasons.

if tank has 100 shell  capacity you can buy 100 AP normal shells, then change  to 100 APCR and again to 100 HE shells, in this case you will have a stock,....You can do that for every gun and tank and tanj and thus make quite a stock,...but why would you want to do that is a question????

There are no discounts on Directives yet you can buy them via depot.

While you are right that it has been years since the last ammunition discount, some people prefer to control their ammunition costs in a different manner.

Free choice. Rather than being dictated to?!

Thanks.

Both constructive and helpful posts rather than opinionated, which seems to be the norm on here.

There is no reason why you would need to stock up on ammo. It always costs the same. If you have a good reason, please tell us what it is, otherwise we'll have to keep guessing.

Also, you can't buy anything from the depot. You can buy things in the store. No, this is not the premium store, it's the in-game store where you can stock up on consumables, buy equipment in bundles at a small discount, etc.

It's just personal preference.

Not everyone thinks the same or feels the same, God forbid.

Being unreasonable to many, is not being wrong; it's just being different. Thinking differently is not such a bad idea: Or is there a solid case for everyone to think the same way?!

There are a lot of gamers with much more experience with this game than I. No doubt they are comfortable with this and don't see much point in stocking up ammo in advance, I do, regardless of reason. It's just the way I prefer to do things when given a choice. :)

As I understand,.....maybe to stock up on expensive premium ammo when you are on credit surplus ,...and later put just 3,5,7 or so of premium shells into the tank and have som ekind of overall control ,....

Another reason maybe is when some mission requires alot of credit spending to get a reward (this was the case once last year) but there is no tank/cons/equipm discount,..in this case buying premium ammo may be the answer to spend alot on something that you would buy anyway ,....

There was a "mission" last year where you had to spend credits. I spent it on buying full sets of ammo for all my tier X tanks. That was the best way for me to spend it as other things can be bought on discount.

I think the regular buying of extra ammo and discounts associated with it was removed in 2012 or earlier (memory hazy, it was a long time ago). My mate got 30M credits invested in ammo refunded.

He got refunded because they changed the shells, not because they removed the option to buy them. I had the same happen to me when they reworked HE and HEAT back in late 2013, early 2014. As I had a big stock of (discounted) HEAT shells, I got refunded.

Until the introduction of the new 'store' UI, it was possible to buy ammo in bulk. Apparently some think this is a strange demand, but it makes as much sense as the current directive system. There are no discounts yet you can decide you want to play 50 battles with a certain directive, and you want to control your stock across time.

It is now gone and that's it. To the OP, I wouldnt count on it coming back.

So WG should cater for every half arsed pointless feature that anyone can think of?

If credits are that tight you're doing it wrong.

I'd guess that they planned / plan discounts on Directives at some point.

They had an event where you had to spend x credits to get 7 days of premium... there it was quite nice to stock up on ammo.

If all you can do is post insults at people, you are doing it wrong.

Nice attitude, genius.

In all fairness if you think that's an insult perhaps the internet isn't the best place for you.

I heard that at one time some players used ammo to stock money while they asked for a wipe of their account.

Dunno if it was true, but that would explain why WG blocked this.
